North Daviess Music Department 2014-2015 Calendar of Events Summary

Please note these events on your family’s calendar(s) and/or planner(s). Please do not schedule family trips, dinners, etc. on the dates when your child has a performance. The schedule should also be copied and shared with students’ coaches, club leaders, bosses, etc. Keep in mind that Band and Choir are classes for which students receive a grade. The items below are not exclusively extra-curricular events: performances must be scheduled outside the school day so that parents and other community members may attend. This means that it is extremely important for all students to be at all required events!

Every effort has been made to schedule around athletic events whenever possible. Each of the three major “home” concerts (Fall, Winter, and Spring) was scheduled after careful study of the sports schedules that were available to the music directors in May of the previous school year (see “‡” note below). By communicating early and often with coaches, students are usually able to avoid conflicts between performances and team practices. There is almost always a way to compromise so that students can enjoy the benefits of being involved in multiple activities during their years at NDHS.

This calendar does not include the following: All-State Choir rehearsals and audition dates, Marching Band performances at home football games, Pep Band performances at home basketball games, play or musical rehearsals, 6th Grade Band performances, and any other additional rehearsals that may be scheduled as needed.

Thank you for keeping this schedule and marking your calendars. We recommend highlighting or placing a star next to the events in which you are required to be involved.

* Denotes events which are sponsored by the Indiana State School Music Association, Inc. Mrs. Dedina and Mrs. Mayfield have no control over the dates determined by ISSMA. They are scheduled years in advance, and the NDHS Athletic Dept. has been given the schedule to help avoid conflicts. ISSMA rarely changes its dates or locations, but if it does, students will be notified immediately.

+ Please note that the times listed are performance times. Students will need to arrive early to set up, warm up, and organize. In general, they will be asked to arrive one hour (or less) before the performance, but exact times will be given to students in class a few days prior to each performance.

‡ = Dates with unavoidable athletic conflicts; we could not find ANY other dates in these ranges that did not already have athletic events scheduled on them. Therefore, we chose the dates that had the fewest activities scheduled in order to minimize the number of students that would have conflicts. Athletes should check their sports schedules and let coaches know about conflicts immediately so that they can plan accordingly.
