Dear ------,

The federal Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and the Michigan Revised School Code(Section 380.1296 of the Revised School Code), requires ABC Community/Public Schools to provide special education services to eligible children enrolled with you for the 20__ - 20__ school year. This obligation includes an allocation of a proportionate share of the federal funds which we receive under the IDEA to provide services to children attending Private/Nonpublic/Home Schools located within the district boundaries. Before making decisions regarding the services which will be provided to school children in the 20__-20__ school year, we are consulting with representatives of all of the Private/Nonpublic/Home schools in the district regarding the needs of children with disabilities attending their schools.

The purpose of the consultation is to:

  • Discuss the child find process and ongoing consultation to private schools;
  • Explain how proportionate funding is calculated;
  • Discuss services that may be provided to students eligible to receive special education in your building/care;
  • Explain what facilities will be needed in your building to provide these services;
  • Allow you the opportunity to ask questions about special education procedures; and
  • Discuss methods to maintain ongoing and productive communication among parties to meet service delivery challenges.

This consultation is scheduled for the following date and time:______, 20xx.

In accordance with rule 340.293 of the Michigan Administrative Rules for Special Education, we are notifying you that the following services are currently contained in our proposed budget for the 20xx – 20xx school year. This rule also requires that within 30 days of the date you receive this letter you will notify us of the services that will be needed for students enrolled with you for the 20zz – 20zz school year. A response form has been enclosed for your convenience.

Services will continue to be provided to students already determined to be eligible per the students existing plan/programas indicated. It would be helpful to have information regarding other students with disabilities who are currently not receiving special education services. If there are other students attending your school who you suspect may be eligible for special education services,please make a referral to our office so that we might proceed with an evaluation.

Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions, please call me at 248-abd-defg.

Sincerely,

, Director
