Definition of a Non Governmental Organization (NGO):
NGOs are democratic entities generally formed around a focused set of goals, and having no affiliation with governments. They operate at local, regional, national and international levels. For the most part, NGOs strive to provide essential social services in which the profit is primarily social progress.
Introduction:
The number of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) is increasing world wide. This is re-shaping politics and economics both at domestic and global levels. Today, NGOs address almost every conceivable issue and they operate in virtually every part of the globe.

Globalization has been associated with increased intra-state tensions and has caused many concerns; over the environment, labour rights, human rights, consumer rights etc. NGOs have an important role in highlighting and addressing these concerns. They are confronting globalization both on a grass roots level as well as within the international arena.

Objective:
Your task is to select and research an NGO. You must provide a clear and concise overview of your chosen organization by addressing each of the following questions below:

  1. What is the mandate or goals of the organization?
  2. How was the organization founded?
  3. What is the rationale behind the organizations programs?
  4. What are some of the recent projects that the organization has implemented?
  5. Where does the organization implement most of its projects?
  6. How have the operations of the organization changed over the last 10 years?
  7. How can the public get involved?

Deliverables:
Using the information that you’ve collected, you must create an informative presentation that highlights the objectives and operations behind your chosen NGO. In essence, you are to act as an advocate for your organization and your presentation should aim to heighten public awareness and encourage active participation. You may use conventional video means or a windows movie maker or the like video software (pinnacle etc) to present what you have learned. Your presentation must be accompanied with a one page pamphlet or brochure that outlines pertinent information, including contact information for those wishing to get involved.
