Current Stock/Shortfalls

NFI Common Pipeline

  • To date, the NFI CP has had sufficient stocks to respond to all NFI requests received. However, there have been shortages of certain items such as cooking sets.
  • UNICEF is looking at procuring some cooking sets from Nairobi to get more sets as quickly as possible.
  • The additional 5,000 pieces of plastic sheetingborrowedfrom UNICEF/WAT-SAN,was received by ROS Common Pipeline two days ago.
  • 5,000 buckets donated by CARE to ROS CP.
  • OFDA will airlift13,000 pcs of plastic sheeting from Dubai to Khartoum. This plastic should arrive by August 5 and 6.

Other Pipeline Information

  • UNHCR has sent their list of NFI stockto UNJLC.
  • SRC will receive 1,000 NFI kits from United Arab Emirates for population affected by floods in Northern Kordofan. UNJLC suggested that SRC can borrow 1,000 NFI kits from CP in EL Obeid and replace later by Emirates stock in order not to delay the distribution.
  • SRCwill receive 2,500 cooking sets within two weeks from Nairobi.
  • SRCoperational update will be circulated soon.
  • Malaria Consortium distributed 4,000 mosquito nets in Jebal Awlia.
  • Sharing information about NFI distributions or procurement by other agencies will avoid overlap.
  • All organizations are reminded to inform UNJLC of their NFI distributions and procurement.
  • Action: All organizations to share detailed stock information and distribution plans with UNJLC.

Funding Strategy:

CHF

  • The CHF NFI/Emergency Shelter sector proposal is one million dollars for procurement of NFIs and airlift of some plastic sheeting for immediate needs. The CHF request will also include some funding for CRS’s emergency shelter activity but limited funding is available. The overall CHF proposal is targeting approximately 40,000 HH(240,000people).

CERF

  • The CERF fund is only for UN Agencies.The NFI sector is asking for $2M targeting 180,000HH. The fund will be used for NFI procurement and UNICEF will channel funds to CARE for transport and warehousing.

Floods Flash Appeal

  • The floods flash appeal will fillany funding gapafter CHF and CERF funding.
  • UNJLC/UNICEF/CARE has prepared a draft funding appeal that includes NFI assistance to a potential 100,000 HH for $3.5 million.
  • Action: All organizations are encouraged to share funding requests for NFI so as to avoid needless competition in the NFI sector. This will also help everyone to make more realistic funding requests.

Other Funding requests

  • SRC reports that they are raising funds for NFIsfor 12,000 HH through emergency response appeal.ECHO has already provided some funds.

Regional Update

  • UNJLC circulatedFloods NFI/Emergency Shelter Sector Report about the sector floods response (attached to these minutes).

Blue Nile

  • UNMIS reported that it is unlikely that UNMIS assets could be used to transport NFIs to inaccessible areas affected by floods in Blue Nile. UNJLC has been waiting to send NFIs to Blue Nile until transport solutions can be found.
  • NFI contingency stock is available in Damazine and can be accessed by interested agencies. NFI requests must be channeled through or coordinated with the RCO in Damazine.

Information Sharing and Coordination

  • UNJLC will track and circulatetheFloods NFI/Emergency Shelter Sector Report sheet to all agencies for comment and update.
  • PLEASE keep UNJLC posted of all NFI stocks and distributions. This information is essential in order to ensure that limited stocks are used wisely.

NFI Access process

To Access NFI for ROS Regions, submit an NFI Request and NFI Assessment Form (forms are posted on the UNJLC web site ) to UNJLC.
