Nogales, Mexico
Spring Break Immersion Application

DUE Wednesday, February 17, 2014

Thank you for your interest in Outdoor Adventures and CASA’s international immersion trip to Nogales, Mexico where we will commune with nature and the communities we will be joining. This year, our hope is not only to engage in adventurous activities such as hiking and camping, but to also creatively engage and co-create with the communities we will be joining. The program will take place from Saturday, March 8, 2014 – Saturday, March 15, 2014.

The international immersion trip is unique in that it is a student-driven trip that will require a significant commitment of time and energy from anyone selected to participate. We will be immersing ourselves in a wonderful community in Nogales, Mexico and using this experience to build connections and gain a more intimate perspective of Mexico’s culture and ourselves. In preparation for the trip, participants will attend one pre-trip meeting. The application is open to both USD Graduate and Undergraduate students who wish to apply. Selections will be made with an expectation that each participant be equally devoted to our group and the experience.

Because of the limited number of spaces, this will be a VERY COMPETITVE process. Please take your time to thoughtfully answer the following questions:

§  Please list your campus and community involvement, including your responsibilities and leadership positions. Please list your class and work schedule as well.

§  What kind of travel experience do you have (nationally and/or internationally)? What was the purpose of your travels? How have those travels affected you on a personal level?

§  What is your purpose for going on this trip? What will the trip mean for you?

§  What are you able to contribute to this group and the experience?

§  What effects, positive and negative, do you think you will have on the communities you will be connecting with?
