This Day of Action takes place during a month long publicengagementcampaign from 1-31 May, with over 15 million citizens from all corners of the world coming together to callon world leadersfor ambitious commitmentsduring the Sustainable Development Goals Summit in September andClimate Change conferencein December. The Global Day of Action on Africa Day is one of the 14 thematic days of action during the month.

Context

Though Africa is showing significant growth, social and economic inequalities continue to widen at all levels. Issues of security and peace are still a big challenge to the continent. In order for development to strive effectively, there is an urgent need to address and tackle holistically the continuous threats affecting its people including extreme poverty, indiscriminate abductions of young women and girls, the killing of innocent people and the effects of climate change To achieve agenda 2063, these issues must be addressed. Africa is full of potentials, and, our leaders and all partners concerned must do more to unleash them to the fullest.

Action/2015 campaign in Africa is therefore calling on ALL, to join hands, demand and ask our Leaders and any other relevant partners to take action on the (a) proposed new Sustainable Development Goal which seeks to “Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, for ALL”, by 2030., and (b) commit the Climate Change negotiations which is expected to held in December, in Paris.

Join the campaign on May 25th to ask our Africa leaders for ACTION on poverty, inequality, climate change and also commit to finance the SDGs.

·  In Cape Town, young people will be marching through the principal street to push their finance minister and the relevant stakeholders to commit to finance key national development agenda that affect their future

·  In Cameroon, adolescents and youth will be holding an educational talk, press conference and / or a radio talk to discuss on the importance for budgetary allocation for financing the development agenda.
