Order to the Sentry
1. Take charge of this post and al government property in view.
2. Walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert, and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.
3. Report alviolations of orders I am instructed to enforce.
4. Repeat all calls from any post more distant from the guardhouse or quarterdeck than my own.
5. Quit my post only when properly relieved.
6. Receive, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the Commanding Officer, Command Duty Officer, Officer of the deck, and officers and petty officers of the watch only.
7. Talk to no one except in the line of duty.
8. Give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.
9. Call the officer of the deck in any case not covered by instructions.
10. Salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.
11. Be especially watchful at night, and during the time for challenging, challenge all persons on or near my post and to allow no one to pass without proper authority.
Cadet Field Manual

  • "NJROTC" stands for Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
  • The three Core values of NAvy JROTC are Honor, Courage and Commitment
  • The National Ensign is flown at half-staff on some occasions to honor and pay respect to deceased persons of national importance.
  • The words to the Pledge of Allegiance are: "I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."

Uniform
NJROTC Patch

  • The three items depicted on the NJROTC patch are a ship, an achor and an eagle.

Aiguillettes

  • Maximum of two aiguillettes can be worm with no more than ONE on each shoulder

Ribbons

  • The highest ribbon award any NJROTC cadet may receive is the Meritorious Achievement Ribbon.

Chin Strap Grommet

  • The grommet on the chin strap is placed on the left

Garrison Cap Rank Insignia

  • The rank insignia on a garrison cap is worn 1 and ½ inch above the bottom edge and 2 inches from the fore crease, on the right side.

Watch/Bracelets

  • One of each authorized

Sunglasses

  • Conservative pair is permitted when authorized by NSI
  • Never authorized in military formations
  • Retainer straps not authorized

T-shirts

  • Plain white crew or V-neck shall be worn at direction of SNSI

Necklaces

  • Authorized but not visible

Shoes

  • Laces inside out

Male

Gig Line

  • The gig line is the alignment of the outside edge of the shirt, pants and belt buckle

Hair

  • 4” in length
  • 2” in bulk
  • Not touching collar
  • Neck/ears tapered upwards ¾” and outwards no greater than ¾”

Sideburns

  • Shall not extend below the middle of the ear

Mustache

  • Shall not extend below the upper lip line
  • Shall not extend below the horizontal line extending across the corners of the mouth
  • Shall not be more than ¼” beyond a vertical line drawn upwards from the corners of the mouth

Fingernails

  • Shall not extend beyond the fingertips

Earrings

  • Not authorized

Rings

  • One per hand is authorized

Female

Hair

  • 2” in bulk
  • Not extending below a horizontal line at the lower edge of the collor

Hair Ornaments

  • Barrettes must be similar to hair color
  • Conspicuous rubber bands, combs and pins are not authorized

Cosmetics

  • Applied in good taste and colors blend with natural skin tones
  • Lipstick should be conservative

Fingernails

  • Shall not be excessive in length
  • Nail polish shall complement skin tone

Earrings

  • One perear, centered on earlobe
  • Small gold or silver ball

Necklaces

  • Authorized but not visible

Rings

  • One per hand is authorized plus engagement or wedding ring

Drill

  • The three parts of a command are preparatory, execution and supplemental commands
  • The 4 items that must be studied and practiced to develop an effective command voice are loudness and projection, distinction or clarity, inflection, and cadence
  • A command voice has a “good inflection when has a good ride and fall pitch and tone- it has plenty of snap.
  • The correct cadence while marching at Quick Time is 120- steps per minute
  • The correct cadence while marching at Double Time is 180- steps per minute
  • The correct length of a step at Quick Time is 30-inches, from heel to heel
  • The correct length of a step at Double Time is 36-inches
  • The specific command or phrase cancels a movement or order is “as you were”
  • The position of Attention will have feet forming an angle of 45 degrees
  • The position of Attention will have thumbs placed along the trouser seams
  • For the position of Parade Rest, move the left for smartly 12” to the left
  • At the position of Parade Rest or At Ease, the only command that can be given is Attention
  • There are 2 counts involved in all facing movements
  • When executing a proper NJROTC salute, the tip of the forefinger touches the lower part of the headdress above and slightly to the right of the right eye.
