Profile

Nicholas Navas is a Chartered Building Surveyor and with a diverse range of experience and skills having worked for a number of local authorities, housing associations as well as major contractors and consultant practices operating within a mix of sectors – predominantly residential public and private, education, health sectors.

The range of services provided range from acting as technical advisor to client /contractor teams through to the management and provision of property related professional services – this includes the alignment, development and administration of large scale refurbishment projects that has included term service contracts such as major capital and revenue improvement programmes through to provision of core professional services such as Building Surveying and Health and Safety consultancy services.

As a key player as to the delivery and management of construction projects, Nick is able to utilise this wide range of experience both as Planning Supervisor and CDM-C to a number of project types that includes new build and refurbishment of residential housing projects.

Formed own Building and Property Consultancy – providing a diverse range of property consultancy and building surveying services to a mix of clients , including the provision of stratgeic AM advice to Local Authority Clients as well as professional services such as Building Surveying, Project Managament, CDM-C Services

Feb 2008-March 2011 Associate Director –Head of Building Surveying, Currie and Brown UK

Responsible for a small team of technical staff at the London Office and with a remit to develop the on-going provision of building surveying / CDM co-ordinator consultancy services in conjunction with Currie and Brown’s UK team of some 18 surveyors based in various offices around the UK. This expertise extends to the provision of Building Consultancy advice and also includes the service delivery of CDM-Co-ordinator and CAD drawing services within London and the South East.

September 2006-February 2008, Senior Building Surveyor, Ridge and Partners LLP

Appointed to develop from a zero base Building Surveying Service provision at the Leicester Office , with the remit to develop service provision with property management clients – Housing Associations, Universities. Secured the office’s first major refurbishment project and provided a wide range of property and constriction service provision including Term Contract Management advice.

External and Internal refurbishment of a listed 20 storey teaching block, comprising stone façade cleaning and repairs, window and door replacement, roof repairs and internal improvements. Complex design features of project were the ‘cheesgrater’ windows, along with tight site constraints, in conjunction with building kept in use and live over the 2 year contract period.

Inner Burton Housing Initiative – Phase 2

East Staffs Borough Council

Comprising part of a Town wide regeneration initiative- the works comprised the External Decoration and Fabric Repairs, New Shop fronts, and Civic Realm Works to 84 streetscape private sector properties within a busy town centre in Burton On Trent. The works comprised the repair/replacement of roofs, brickwork, chimneys, rendered coatings and windows/door replacement to all residential units, and 24 shop fronts. The works also included internal energy improvements – such as TRV’s and Energy Monitors. The progress is currently in progress to cost and time constraints. The role also included providing support to clients and residents through a process of consultation and site visits.

As lead surveyor managing Hotel Ramada’s assets across the Country, acting as the lead advisor to the client in procuring, developing solutions and putting in place contracts to solve property maintenance and management issues. Examples of this work ranged from undertaking roof surveys and instigating complex repair/renewal works solutions through a scheme of works to restore a 200 year old Grade ii listed timber frame façade using lime mortars and timber repair system, with residents in situ. In addition the role has included providing support to the client in ensuring his premises were safe and compliant- this includes issues such as fire safety, DDA audits etc.
