News Release Incident: Shoplifting/False Public Alarm

Date of Print: September 27th, 2017

Case# 2017- 58113

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, September 26th, 2017 the Egg Harbor Township Police Department responded to Walmart to investigate a missing (8) eight year old child inside the store. Patrol Officer’s arrived and made contact with Walmart Employees as well as the mother of the missing juvenile identified as Donna Hall. Walmart Staff placed the store on lockdown as they looked for the missing juvenile.

Ms. Hall advised Walmart Employees that her granddaughter had been last seen in the jewelry section of the store. She also advised Staff that her granddaughter had a tendency to hide. Also on location with Ms. Hall as she reported the incident to Police, was her adult daughter as well as a friend initially identified as Joseph Volpe. Mr. Volpe was alleged to be in the store at the same time as the Hall’s shopping as well. Patrol and Walmart Loss Prevention investigated further as Mr. Volpe and Ms. Hall later alleged that her Granddaughter left with a friend after the friend couldn’t find Ms. Hall inside the store.

Investigation revealed that the alleged report of a missing juvenile was in fact a made up story to distract Employees in order to shoplift merchandise from Walmart. Mr. Volpe who was determined to be Nicholas Hall (Donna Hall’s Adult Son), was observed on video as Employees looked for the missing juvenile filling Walmart bags with clothing and candy at the front of the store. As a result of the investigation, both Donna and Nicholas Hall were arrested, processed and released on summonses pending court.
