  1. SCHOOL RE-OPENING 2016.

11 JANUARY 2016: ALL NEW LEARNERS MUST BE AT SCHOOL AT 07H30 IN THE MORNING FOR ORIENTATION, STATIONERY ISSUING AND CLASSROOM ALLOCATION. LEARNERS WHO ARE NOT GOING TO COME ON THE SAID DATE THEIR SPACE WILL BE GIVEN TO OTHERS WHO ARE ON THE WAITING LIST.

12 JANUARY 2016: ALL EXISTING LEARNERS MUST REPORT FOR SCHOOL TO ALSO COLLECT STATIONERY AND FOR CLASSROOM ALLOCATIONS.

13 JANUARY 2016: ALL LEARNERS MUST BE SEATED INSIDE THEIR CLASSROOMS AT 07H00 FOR THE BEGINNING OF THE FIRST PERIOD.

  1. STATIONERY LISTS.

We have attached a list of stationery that we request all parents to purchase for their kids. Please buy the items now in December to avoid frustration in January. We do not want to see our learners frustrated and failing to do their work properly in January because the parents failed to carry their correct responsibility of doing so.

  1. LEARNERS RESIDING ALONE AT HOME.

It has earlier during the course of the year, came to our attention that there were learners whose parents, more especially mothers, came to register their kids to study at the school and later on they returned to their respective homes far away from Freedom Park, leaving their kids alone to fend for themselves or leaving them under the neighbours’ supervision.

Those learners would absent themselves a lot because of lack of parental supervision as those living with their fathers who are working at the mines, leave them alone very early in the morning for work. The children become vulnerable these times as girls end up falling pregnant at an early age. We are going to identify such learners [especially girls], whose mothers would register and leave them behind, and would send them where their mothers are residing so that they could take care of their kids.

We are going to fight absenteeism rate to the bitter end.

  1. TEENAGE PREGNANCY.

Teenage pregnancy is still disturbing as one child pregnant is quite too many. Parents, please assist in taking your children through guidance on abstinence and to focus on education. Their time to have children will come at a later stage, not now.

Take your girl learners through programmes of prevention offered at the local clinics and show them the importance of getting educated so that they could not rely on men in future for their survival. Sit your boy children down and show them the advantages of focusing on getting careers that will see them taking care of their children who would have been borne at the right time.

We have programmes in place at school, whereby learners are offered guidance and the opportunity to ask questions in terms of the life skills in general. We need your part as a parent. Time has come that we have to be open to our children. We discourage those parents who offer their girl children hand of marriage to older men under the pretext of culture. Give the children an opportunity to grow up please.

  1. LEARNER DISCIPLINE.

All learners will be issued with the Code of Conduct so as to study it carefully with the parent. We urge parents to always remind their kids on how to behave at school. The good behavioral pattern must not be displayed at school, even outside the school as well as at home specifically, must be seen.

We do not want to see learners fighting each other within and outside school. Charity begins at home. Parents must assist the school in building the child to be a responsible citizen.

  1. MATRIC 2015.

We registered 168 matriculates this year and generally their behavior was not so bad. We have exposed them to camps during autumn, winter, spring and the in-school camping when they were writing final examination. We have done all that was to be done to make them pass their matric examination.

The results will be issued on the 06 January 2016. All learners must come and collect their statements of results at school and not to rely on newspapers as errors may occur. The only valid prove of results is the statement.

  1. FUNDRAISING ACTIVITIES.

We thank parents who have been contributing R10 per learner during activities held this term, as well as the trip money to Johannesburg on the 30th September 2015. Our school is showing progress because of your assistance. This money is positively working towards the better stay of your child at school.

We encourage other parents to start supporting their children because if a parent always run short of R10 whenever a child requests it, the child will ultimately lose confidence in the parent’s parental role and start misbehaving.

Through fundraising, we are in the process of finalizing the sitting area for them as well as the purchase of the school minibus taxi that will see them travelling to nearby schools during the week to partake in sports.

  1. DONATION RECEIVED:

We received laboratory chemicals and apparatus to be used by science learners from Newrak-mining Company amounting to R300 000-00. Newrak-mining Company has adopted our school and is still funding salaries of two educators and Administrative Assistant. We thank them for their support.

Impala Mines has assisted the school in replacing the fence that was vandalized during 2013 strike. We urge the parents to be jealous of their school and take care of the infrastructure even after hours. Parents should not allow anybody to steal or vandalize the school property without reporting them to the Police and the School because if this school can end up being dilapidated, no company will ever risk building another one in the community.

Let us all take care of this school so that the world can see that we care and protect and might assist in getting other facilities the community need, like clinic, youth centers shops, etc.

Lottery has transferred an amount of R299 900-00 to be utilized to construct the soccer field as well as purchasing of equipment [balls, kits, etc] to an amount of R50 000-00.

We want to see maximum participation in sport in 2016 and we urge parents to support their kids through purchases of soccer boots as well as visiting the school during sports days to watch the matches.

Sport assists learners to behave properly and not to roam the streets. It moulds the child especially when played at school.

We are currently in negotiations with Atlas Towers, the results of which will see the school and the community at large no more suffering with network problems as they would be installing cell phone tower in the school. The relationship started will be mutuality in nature as they will be assisting the school in reaching some of its needs.

  1. COMMUNICATION.

We invite parents to always visit to get latest development in the school 24/7. We also have a facebook page run by our learners: FreedomPark Secondary School News.

If there is any information you will want to communicate with the office of the Principal, email it to .

Our educators are busy developing group whatsApp pages with their learners so as to interact even on holidays and weekends.

  1. RESULTS ANALYSIS.

We are not satisfied with the performance of learners in Grades 8 to 10. We wish to request parents to help us fight the poor performance in all the subjects especially in Mathematics.

Parental support through making sure that children study on daily basis at home will definitely improve the general performance.

  1. CLOSURE.

On behalf of the School Management Team, the School Governing Body and all the Staff in general, we wish all parents and their relative an enjoyable festive season, a very merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

Thank you very much to have partnered with us to build your child. Let us continue the same project in 2016 with an improved commitment, working togetherness, peace and love.
