2010 CENSUS PARTICIPATION

Please promptly complete your census form and return as soon as possible. It’s important to participate because an accurate count of the Town’s population is used for various reasons including the basis for obtaining funding.

CITIZEN INPUT IS REQUESTED ON PROPOSED STREET MODIFICATIONS

Park Drive – Proposal to revert traffic back to 2-way on Park Dr. with a “Right Turn Only” onto North Main St. due to the huge volume of cars using Shafer Park Drive in the morning.

St. Paul Street – Recommendation to enforce “No Parking” on both sides of the street from High St. around the sharp curve to the Fire House Alley because of the narrowness of that section of St. Paul St.

Della Lane at Winner Lane – Make this location a 3-way STOP to slow down traffic speed in the neighborhood and to prevent accidents at the top of the hill.

Della Lane at Kerns Drive – Place a 4-way STOP at the intersection to further slow neighborhood traffic.

Send your comments to the Town Manager’s email at or return with your utilities payment by Friday, April 23, 2010.

BOONSBORO RESIDENTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO RECYCLE MORE

Under our new contract for residential trash removal, the Town is billed by the County landfill for every pound of waste deposited. So the more you use the two recycling bins at the park-n-ride, the less it will cost us (taxpayers) for trash removal. During each month of 2009, more than 18 tons of recyclables were collected at the Boonsboro site, the most of any site outside of the City of Hagerstown.

Here are the items that can be recycled in the green bins:

Mixed paper – newspaper, junk mail, magazines, food boxes (i.e. cake, cereal, etc.), phone books and small sheets of corrugated cardboard less than 2 feet square.

Commingled material – food and beverage cans, green/brown/clear food and beverage bottles/jars, #1 & #2 rigid plastic containers. (All other numbered plastics and plastic grocery bags cannot not be recycled in Washington County.)

If you have any questions concern recycling, please call the county recycling office at 240-313-2796.
