Mini Grants Guidelines
Summer 2011
Dear New Leader:
We invite you to participate in an exciting component of the NEW LeadershipTM New York Summer Institute. As a member of the Class of 2011, we invite you to participate in a Campus/Community Action Project to apply your leadership skills and advance your community organizing/advocacy skills.You are eligible to apply for a mini grant from the Center for Women in Government & Civil Society (CWGCS) and receive between $250 - $500 to offset the cost of your community/campus action project. Up to 5 awards will be made.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Project must addressone of the following issuesof importance to women on your campus or in your community: health & wellness, women’s leadership on campus, or violence against women.
- You must have a letter of approval from your school’s administration (or applicable communityorganization) before beginning your project (we understand that this may be difficult, so please contact CWGCS if you would like assistance).
You will also be invited to participate in a webinar series in Fall 2011,which will provide technical assistance to you in carrying out your project. In Spring 2012, CWGCS will hold a final webinar for all mini- grant awardees to discuss the results of their action project. Please bear in mind that all projects must addressa societal issue of importance to women and their families. Projects may be carried out in your home or campus community.
Example projects include: organizing and convening a seminar/lecture/workshop that educates and informs women and girls on the topic; establish a mentoring program between women on your campus and girls in high school or middle school to help address the issue; host a campus or community forum on the topic; host a walk/bike/run-a-thon to benefit a nonprofit serving the health needs of women in your community.
If you are interested in applying to the mini grant program, CWGCS asks that you prepare a one to two paragraph summary of any previous volunteer/community organizing work you have been involved with on your campus/in your community. Please submit this information by June 30, 2011. If you do not submit this information, you will not be eligible to apply for a mini grant.
Once you have completed your application, please submit it to Cara Long; Center for Women in Government & Civil Society at . All applications must be submitted on or before September 15, 2011. Award notification letters to all applicants will be mailed on: October 6, 2011.
