New Label Format for Plant Sale – Get Yours Today!

This year the Plant Sale Planning Committee created a standardized label format for plants donated by Master Gardeners. We felt that a standardized format would increase clarity, provide necessary information to the new owners regarding plant characteristics, and create a uniform appearance. Gabbi Edwards reformatted all of the labels generated from last year’s plant sale into the new format and worked with Alison Boelman from Story County Extension and Outreach to make these labels available to all to download and print.

The new plant labelscan be accessed through the Story County Extension website: Scroll down towards the bottom and you will see the Plant Sale Extravaganza flyer. This page contains a flyer advertisement about our Plant Sale Extravaganza, volunteer information, and a list to PDF files of the plant labels. Please access the “Plant Labels” link to download and print labels specific to your donations. When searching for your plant label, the document title structure lists the main plant type first, followed by the specific cultivar, i.e. Daylily Ice Carnival, that way all Daylily labels are grouped together. We currently have labels of the plants listed:

If you do not see your plant name in this list, please contact Gabbi Edwards (), she will create a label with the new format, send you the file, and will upload the file to be available through the Story County website. It is our goal to have all Master Gardener plant donations with labels in the standardized format. If you are unable to print in color and would like color printing, contact Ann Wilbur ().

When preparing your plant donations, please print off a label (there are six labels per each sheet in the format), attach one or two labels to the pot, and waterproof in some way. Waterproofing can be as simple as applying a few layers of clear packing tape over the label. This reduces water and wind damage to the label during the sale.

A special thank you to Alison Boelman, Story County Extension Administrator, for creating the web link and working to create an easy access point for label storage.
