Student Course Requirement Sheet

Text: Marine Biology Cost: $117 (If misplaced)

* Students must come to class prepared with a pen or pencil, notebook and the materials required to participate in the lesson. Students will be told what materials are needed on an ongoing basis.

Notebook: Three “ring” binder divided into two sections with a folder. Notebook sections include class notes and homework. Open notebook assessments will be given each marking period, therefore, an organized notebook is vital to student success.

Do Now: Each lesson will begin with a Do Now assignment. Do Now assignments may be collected and graded at any time.

Homework: Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday and on Friday when necessary Students may miss one homework per semester without penalty. Students are responsible for completing assignments without exception.

Lab Reports: Students will be required to complete a lab report following each laboratory activity.

Projects: Various projects will be assigned to assess student understanding. Projects must be completed on time or points will be deducted.

Field Trips: Field trips will be scheduled for those students that are passing the class and completing the necessary course requirements. Students that are unable to attend will be given an alternative assignment.

Tests: Tests and/or projects will be given at the end of each unit. Students will be given ample time to prepare for tests and are expected to attend extra help when needed.

Quizzes: May be announced or unannounced.

Grading Formula: Students’ grades are calculated based on the total points earned during the marking period. Listed below is an approximate breakdown:

Tests 40%

Quizzes and Do Nows 10%

Homework 20%

Projects and Lab Reports 30%

Extra Help: Students are encouraged to attend extra help whenever necessary.
