OBITUARY

Mr. Edgar D. West

"Let not your hearts be troubled; ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so I would have told you." (John 14:1-2)

Edgar D. West was born August 30, 1929 to the late Will and Bessie Engram West in Montezuma, Macon County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Earl West, Mary West, Robert West, Willie Mae West, Ellen West Byrom, Beatrice West, Esther West Ragin and C.W. West.

At an early age, he joined New Hope Baptist Church. Ed, as he was affectionately called, was a graduate of Flint River Farms High School. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served his country honorably. He later attended Fort Valley State College where he received his BS in Elementary Education. He was employed at Robins AFB for several years. After leaving Robins AFB, he was employed by the Macon County Board of Education as an elementary school teacher. He retired after many years of service.

Ed was married to the former Jeanetta Neal West. They enjoyed many years together. On Tuesday, January 31, 2012, Edgar West departed this earthly life for an eternal life. Sleep on Edgar and take thy rest, we love you, but God loves you best.

Left to cherish his memory: his brother and sister-in-law, Fredrick and Gwendolyn West, Jackson, Georgia; his brothers-in-law, Willie Neal, Montezuma, Georgia; and Clovis and Martha Neal, Tampa, Florida; his loving companion and “partner,” JoMaxye McKenzie, Americus, Georgia; a host of beloved nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends also survive.

God Saw You Getting Tired

God saw you getting tired

When a cure was not to be.

So He wrapped His arms around you

And whispered, “Come to me.”

You didn’t deserve what you went through

So He gave you rest.

God’s garden must be beautiful

He only takes the best.

And when I saw you sleeping

So peaceful and free from pain

I could not wish you back

To suffer that again.

Life is but a Stopping Place
Life is but a stopping place,
A pause in what's to be,
A resting place along the road,
to sweet eternity.
We all have different journeys,
Different paths along the way,
We all were meant to learn some things,
but never meant to stay...
Our destination is a place,
Far greater than we know.
For some the journey's quicker,
For some the journey's slow.
And when the journey finally ends,
We'll claim a great reward,
And find an everlasting peace,
Together with the lord
