NEW EXCITING OPPORTUNITY FOR MEMBERS OF NORTH COUNTRY ARTS

NCA has been awarded a NYS Decentralization Grant administered through LARAC to create a new program for three areas of the arts to collaborate: Fine Arts, Music and the Performing Arts, and Literature. The program is called LAST CALL: a Collaborative Oratorio with poetry by Paul Pines set to music by composer Catherine Reid, and an exhibition of North Country Arts members’ art to be created based on one or part of one of six selected poems. Each artist may submit two pieces. This will culminate in a performance of six to eight singers and an exhibit at the Wood Theater, with the performance on September 23, 2017. After the exhibit at the Wood, from Sept. 16 to 30th, the exhibit will be moved to the Crandall Public Library Gallery for the month of November. Art may be for sale. There will be five juror’s choice awards. The poems are attached and can be found on the NCA Website.

There are six poems from which an artist can select one or more on which to base the art. Art can be based on a small part of the poem or more, and can be in any media. Because of the grant, no fee will be charged for participation. Board member artists Fred Holman, Jon Segan and Judith Tully will make a number of juror’s choice awards, Art should be delivered to the Wood Theater along with the chosen poem or part of the poem used for interpreting in the art. Juror’s choices will be done on site.

The artist must complete a form either by email or mail by August 27th to participate stating the following: Name of Artist, Poem chosen, title of art, dimensions, media and price.. Art must be delivered to the Wood Theater, by September 9. Work may be for sale and must be ready for hanging or presentation. Art will be displayed in the reception area of the Theater . It will be stored at the Wood and then moved to Crandall Public Library for the month of November.

Artists will be expected to promote the show through their Facebook page and encourage their friends and family to attend the performance and exhibition on Sept. 23, 2017. The audience will be encouraged to view the art and purchase it if they wish. Cost to attend the performance will be $15 and 200 + attendees are needed to cover the rest of the costs. Members are encouraged to participate in this exceptional opportunity. The Wood Theater will be open for the exhibition during the Balloon Festival Party downtown.

“This project is made possible with funds from the Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the NYS Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Andrew Cuomo and the NYS Legislature and administered by the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council.”
