  1. Catalog Description: This course will focus on the philosophy and fundamentals of the Pilates method at the intermediate level.
  1. Impact on current curriculum: Students completing HPE 120 Intro to Pilates have requested an advanced level course.
  1. General Education Goals: NA, this course does not meet the criteria for a General Education Course.
  1. Transferability: Transfers as a one credit elective or HPE requirement when applicable.
  1. Course Goals: The goal of this course is to promote life-long fitness and wellness through application of knowledge and techniques pertaining to Pilates at the intermediate level.

Course Objectives: During completion of this course students will:

  1. Evaluate and record fitness/skill levels in basic skill areas.
  2. Define and apply terminology, theory and techniques pertaining to the fundamental skills of Pilates.
  3. Develop and apply skills and techniques of Pilates.
  4. Practice safe and effective techniques of Pilates.
  5. Advance to the use of props at the Mat I level of Pilates practice.

Pre and post test measures of flexibility will be implemented at the beginning and end of 7 week course including:

  1. Hamstring Flexibility
  2. Upper Body Flexibility, and
  3. Lateral Side Stretch and Lower Back Flexibility.
