Post Criteria

Post: Head of Learning Support - SENCO

Description: Permanent position (2 responsibility points)

Responsible to: Vice-Principal

We are looking for someone who is passionately committed to inclusive education, and who can ensure that all of our students have access to the Full N.I. curriculum and have their individual needs met. The prime responsibility of this post is to ensure the promotion, direction and oversight of the high standards of teaching and learning, pupil achievement and progressions through effective inclusion of pupils with Special Educational Needs.

Essential Criteria:

-  Department of Education recognised teaching qualification (Post Primary).

-  A professional qualification related to Special Educational Needs

-  A minimum of 5 years continuous post primary teaching by 1st September 2017

-  A minimum of 3 years’ experience working with students with special educational needs in a post primary setting by 1st September 2017

-  An awareness of the legal and legislative frameworks that are in place to ensure educational provision for pupils with special educational needs

-  Evidence of supporting and advising staff on strategies to assist pupils with special educational needs, including those with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties

-  An ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms

-  Evidence of positive commitment to integrated and all ability education must be expressed in the application form.

Desirable Criteria:

-  Minimum Degree classification 2:1

-  A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with students with special educational needs in a post primary setting by 1st September 2017

-  Evidence of leading whole staff training relating to Special Educational Needs.

-  Evidence of continuing professional development relating to special educational needs

-  A proven record of working with a variety of school and community stakeholders to support the quality of educational provision for pupils with special educational needs.
