Dear Parent/Carer

Re: Instrumental tuition

As you will be aware, there are a number of opportunities available for your child as a student at St Martin’s School. One of these is the chance to learn a musical instrument.

Students benefit from individual tuition provided by a specialised team of peripatetic tutors who are employed by the school through Essex Music Services and also directly. They are well qualified and experienced musicians, and most of them regularly perform in professional concerts. This means we have to book them in advance.

Lessons are booked by the term and payment will be required before your child begins lessons each term.

If you would like your child to have instrumental lessons at St Martin’s, please complete the enclosed form and return it to school by the date stated, marked for the attention of Mr Radley. This will ensure that paperwork and payment can be completed in time for lessons at the beginning of the next term.

Lessons are on a rolling timetable so students will not have the same subject lesson disrupted each week. Students will be expected to check the time of their lessons on the timetables displayed in the Music department. Parents will be informed if students fail to turn up for two consecutive lessons. It is the pupils’ responsibility to turn up for the correct sessions, on time and well equipped.

Students taking lessons will have priority access to the school practice rooms, subject to a first come, first served basis. However, they must have a practice room pass on them at all times, and this can be signed for and collected from Mr Radley, once their block of lessons has begun. Please ensure these passes are returned, once students have stopped having instrumental lessons at the school.

Students taking instrument lessons will be advised to join at least one lunchtime music activity(see list below).

Steel Pans – Monday Lunchtime/Afterschool - All welcome

Music Technology Club – Monday Lunchtime

Orchestra – Tuesday lunchtime - All welcome
