Job Description: Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for a 13-month fixed-term Postdoctoral Researcher contract position. The position is designed for the development, optimisation and in vivo evaluation of the efficacy of a biomaterial construct for the treatment of spinal cord injury.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Co-ordinate and manage project in an independent manner

Perform extensive in vitro and in vivo experimentation

Elucidate molecular mechanisms of biomaterial constructs in reconstituting spinal cord injury.

Conduct in vivo evaluation of the optimised construct in a pre-clinical model

Contribute to experimental prototype testing to develop patentable processes

Guide and train doctoral candidates and work closely with other post-doctoral scientists at NFB and associated institutes within and outside NUI Galway

Qualifications:

Applicant’s Specifications:Ideal candidate should have a track record in a research and development environment. Candidates must be highly motivated and passionate about developing new products and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills. A PhD degree in a biomedical field is required. The successful candidate should have expertise in as many of the following areas as possible: inflammation, wound healing, molecular biology, cell biology, matrix biology, in vitro and in vivo assays, protein analysis, gene analysis, histology, immunohistochemistry and stereology. Previous experience in pre-clinical models is highly preferred. Publications in high impact factor journals and active participation in international conferences and meetings is essential. Candidates who have worked in the area of inflammation and/or wound healing are encouraged to apply.

Salary: €38,286per annum (public sector pay policy rules pertaining to new entrants will apply)

Start date: Position is available from November 2014
