NCS Events Coordinator

GENERAL STATEMENT

Personal Best Education (Mountbatten School Services Ltd) is an inspirational and dynamic company, where no two days are the same. The organisation’s aim is to provide activities, programmes and services that enable others to achieve their personal best.

The NCS programme sees 16 and 17 year olds meeting other young people from their area, over a four-week period, learning new skills and developing their own social action project alongside local businesses and charities to make a difference to their community. Over 1,200 young people from Hampshire completed the life-changing NCS programme in 2016. Through the NCS programme, Personal Best Education (Mountbatten School Services Ltd) enables participants to develop the skills and attitudes they need to become more engaged with their communities and grow into active and responsible citizens.

JOB PURPOSE

To plan, coordinate and deliver a range of events to schools and other group settings to positively promote and encourage signups to the NCS autumn, spring and summer programmes

To encourage Young people to sign up to the programme by responding to expressions of interest requests

RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Planning and coordinating events
50% / Working closely with the marketing coordinator and school liaison coordinator you will:
Build a profile of young people in each school or group
Plan appropriate events to each school in our area
Develop a range of engagement activities designed to reach the widest audience and promote the NCS program to young people.
Liaise with other staff to ensure all events are appropriately represented
Deliver a range of activities in Schools and to groups. This will include:
oAssemblies
oTutor group lessons
oLunchtime stands
oCurriculum lessons
oParents evenings
oInformation evenings
oInformal chats
oKeep warm events
Reporting and data management
10% / Develop and maintain system the attendance and quality assurance of all events
Create reportsthat show the effectiveness of each event and type of event
Building and maintaining relationships with young people and parents
20% / As part of the sales and recruitment team you will:
Be the first port of call for all young person enquiries
Talk young people through the programme, working through any fears or barriers and encouraging them to sign-up
Liaise with parents to encourage sign-ups and allaying any fears or barriers
Attend events set up by the events coordinators to represent NCS/PBED
Respond to your expression of interest (EOI’s) on a Rota system.
Delivering on all NCS programmes
15% / During key delivery periods, you may be asked to support with:
Overseeing teams of leaders
Taking on role of residential pastoral lead OR senior leader
Delivering regular team meetings
Managing the logistics of the residential site, hubsites or groups
Be first point of call for site or wave related enquiries
Meet regularly with site owners to ensure compliance with site rules
Support delivery of other aspects of NCS including social action and associated follow up with young people
Ensure all groups are complying with PBED policies and legal requirements (including writing and following risk assessments)
General duties
5% / Support other team members to ensure that the smooth operation of the NCS programme.
Undertake other general tasks and duties as required by your line manager or the Director of Business and Innovation

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education and Qualifications

  • Must be educated to degree level or hold a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar field

Skills and experience

Essential

  • Outstanding communication skills at all levels
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Knowledge or experience of working on NCS or comparable programmes
  • Experience of communicating and building positive relationships with young people
  • Working to difficult targets and tight timeframes
  • Ability to manage own workload and time

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the youth services sector
  • Experience of working within education; particularly SEN, PRU’s and the Independent sector
  • Experience of selling a service to young people

REQUIREMENTS

To fulfil this role members of staff must:

  • Be an outstanding communicator, able to adapt to a wide range of audiences from Headteachers and company directors through to young people
  • Be willing to work collaboratively and flexibly within the whole PBED team
  • Be prepared to work unsociable hours including evenings, weekends and during school holiday periods
  • Hold a full clean driving licence and have your own transport

This is a 52 week contract.

Extended holiday may not be taken during key delivery periods prior to Spring, Summer and Autumn NCS Programmes. This job will require some unsociable working hours during key delivery periods.

All support staff undertake an annual appraisal in line with school policy and practice. This post holder’s appraisal would be line managed and undertaken by the NCS Programme Manager – Sales and Recruitment.
