NCC Pediatric Housestaff Meeting Minutes

Information only:

  1. Recording Work Hours: Please make sure that when you record your hours do not change the rotation/location to the place you physically are working at or take call at. It is designed to be set to the rotation block you are currently on.
  1. Call Schedule: Thanks for the call request responses. If you haven’t submitted your preference for the holiday block, please do so by both emailing Maj Darling and placing a special request in amion.
  1. Holiday Block: 12/24-12/27 and 12/31-1/3 are the two 4 day holiday
    blocks.
  2. Holiday Holiday Leave Policy: If you request leave in conjunctionwith a 4 day block and you are traveling outside the "leave" area then youmust take ordinary leave for all of the days (4 day block + other leavedays). The AF/Navy policy stipulates that you must take leave if you areoutside a 24 hour travel time back to your duty station. The Army specifiesa 250 mile radius. The holiday blocks will be treated as weekendcross-coverage calls. These 8 days out of block 7 are not call free for
    anyone.
  1. Recruiting season update: Please continue to make an effort in getting to know the 4th years as they rotate through the program and sign up to keep in contact with them.

  1. Program Director Semi-Annual Meeting: Each of youwill have the opportunity to meet with Dr. Yu over the next few weeks. This is your semi-annual PDmeeting.More info to follow.
  1. Research Elective: Dr. Roberts () spoke about the goals and objective of the research elective. Email him at least 8 weeks before your rotation so that he can help you set up for research project. This elective month is not meant to be spent writing up case reports. There are several opportunities to participate in bench research (USU labs with Dr. Roberts, Lieuw; Maryland University Lab (Lisa Kla and Sat Gada did this).

  1. Resident Retreat: 20 OCT at WRAIR. Ward call coverage is arranged for 19 OCT starting at 1700-0600 (LTC Baechler). PICU day coverage for 19 OCT 0700-1600 (PA Kline). Ward day coverage and NICU coverage pending. Residents will be expected to be present for call duties at 1700 on 20 OCT after the retreat activities.

  2. Commander’s letter pending for LCDR Ehrmann, LCDR Cobb, CPT Jasani, Capt Parker, LT Banks, LT Cunningham B, CPT Heckler, LT Nelson, and CPT Daniels.   1. Sedation training (POC: Maj Darling)
  2. All PL-3s need to complete the sedation training refresher course. Please review the powerpoint slides and complete the quiz. Also fill out the Sedation Training Refresher Checklist and Certification of Training, attach your quiz and turn it into me.
  3. This requires that your PALS certification is current.
  4. We are 40% compliant. Action Plan: Complete all necessary training by the ECD.

  1. PL-2 Continuity Clinic (POC: Maj Darling): A question was raised about the addition of a 6th appointment to the PL-2 continuity clinic schedule at 1530. Concerns: still need to precept patients at times and therefore there is a time issue as well as the N-Cl support staff (late-stay corpsman and nurse) are not always available to help. Action Plan: investigate the need for a 6th appointment and also the clinic support issue.

  1. AF Preventative Health Assessment (PHA) (POC: Maj Darling): Figure out if AF members can complete their AF PHA at USUHS. The Family Health Center at USUHS does not have the availability to complete AF PHA’s unless you are enrolled to their clinic. Please contact the Occupational Health Clinic at Andrews at 240-857-5498/3385 to inquire about your required items. The required online AF Web Health Assessment can be located at

The voicemail tree options are no longer available. Direct patients to contact the clinic for follow-up questions. All clinic support staff have been directed to place t-cons in AHLTA for you to review. You may also continue to communicate with your patients via email just remember to consider HIPPA and protected health information. I recommend pasting important email communication into AHLTA.
