NASA ADMINISTRATOR DAN GOLDIN TO RECEIVE

1995 NATIONAL SPACE TROPHY IN HOUSTON

The Rotary National Award for Space Achievement (RNASA) Foundation has announced the selection of NASA Administrator Dan Goldin to receive this year’s most prestigious award given by the aerospace community, the National Space Trophy. He will receive this award at a banquet in his honor on February 16, 1995 at the Houston Hyatt Regency.

Congressman Tom DeLay (R-TX) who will present the Trophy to Goldin, cited him, “For outstanding executive leadership in pioneering a sea change at NASA, creating a culture that values technological innovation, fiscal accountability, creative management, and workforce diversity.”

Dr. Carolyn L. Huntoon, Director of Johnson Space Center called Goldin, “The driving force behind American’s future accomplishments in space. At TRW, his technical expertise and sound management practices led the company to the leading edge of new space technologies, the technologies that will be utilized in the year 2000 and beyond. Here at NASA, his bold new initiatives and visionary management style are reshaping the Agency.”

Mr. Goldin is the 9th individual to receive the National Space Trophy. A portrait of each honoree is painted and hung with the National Space Trophy which is on permanent display at Space Center Houston. Each honoree is presented with a stylized miniature of the National Space Trophy handcrafted by the world-famous Steauben Glas Company of New York.

The Award is given annually to a U.S. citizen for their preeminent contributions to space exploration. Nominations for the award are submitted each year by leaders of aerospace corporations, government agencies, professional organizations, and the media. A ballot of finalists is voted on by the RNASA Foundation’s National Board of Advisors with the confidential votes tabulated by an independent accounting firm.
