SUMMARY OF PROGRAM: The CAREER Program offers NSF's most prestigious awards in support of early-career faculty who have the potential to serve as academic role models in research and education and to lead advances in the mission of their department or organization. Activities pursued by early-career faculty should build a firm foundation for a lifetime of leadership in integrating education and research

TIPS:

  • Discuss readiness to apply for a CAREER grant with your Department Chair and/or NSF Program Officer.
  • Contact the Program Officer in the division or program closest to your area of research to discuss your CAREER proposal ideas: nsf.gov/staff/.
  • Develop an innovative research idea and education plan aligned with departmental and institutional goals.
  • Be sure your proposal is “substantially different” than a proposal currently under review with NSF to avoid having your proposal returned as redundant. Your CAREER proposal should not overlap with research funded by NSF or another agency.
