Worcester Information for Regatta Saturday 19 May 2012

The Regatta is Saturday only and does not seem to be split into morning and afternoon divisions. Race entries have closed and the draw will be available for all to see / printout shortly on the Worcester Rowing club website. This web site should also then contains information for crews on safety and the course and should be read by all. I seem to remember there is a staggered start / finish which all rowers should be aware of.

De-rigging the boats – please meet at the boat shed Friday the 18th of May to help de-rigg the boats as well as load the trailer. With plenty of help we should complete within an hour. It is not technical and there is work for everyone.Fridays time to be confirmed.

Worcester directions – approximately 1 hour from Bristol. From the M5 motorway follow the main signs for Worcester centre then Worcester racecourse where the event is. The race course is through the town centre and the last right turn beforethe river. Bear left after a couple of hundred yards and the racecourse entrance is on the left hand side. Detailed directions are not on their Web site but can be googled.

Parking – this has been free and is in the middle of Worcester Race course

Arrival time both days – unless advised by the coaching staff rowers are expected to be by the boat trailer in the racecourse 90 minutes before their boating time

Entries – these have all been lodgedand are as per the list attached. Please check with your coach if any issues.

Camping – not applicable as day trip only

Food – The normal Tea, Coffee, Cakes and BBQ are available at a price. Individual choice here but plenty of us make our own picnic lunch which is not only cheaper but over the day there are only so many Burgers you can eat and it’s a long regatta season!

Supervision – Regattas by and large are very safe events and the rowers tend to stick pretty much together. Parents do not have to attend every regatta but if you are leaving your rower in the care of someone else please ensure they have all the kit, money and information to enjoy the day. Coaches are not available to act as supervisors.

Kit – Like all events this is weather dependant. Sun screen through to thermals - please be prepared.

Watching – the viewing area is all concreted. It can be very cold to sit on and cushions are recommended. It gets the sun in the afternoon and can get very warm but conversely can be very cold/wet if the raining/windy. The tow path is not really suitable for cycling.

Weather – the river is subject to fluctuating levels and if sufficient rain the event could be cancelled. The coaches will be contacted and the message cascaded through texts amongst the rowers (a surprisingly effective cascade!)

Finally – the boats return to Bristol on Saturday night after racing. As with Friday we need to get the boats back off the trailer and rigged. Please pencil in some time Saturday evening to help.
