National Logistics Workshop 2010
National Interagency Support Cache Updates
NISC Strategic Plan
Continues to be implemented and the efficiency study portion is nearing completion relative to the location and number of caches
The final report will be presented to leadership some time in 2010
ICBS-R
Remaining NISCs to be implemented include:
GBK – Mar/Apr (2010)
AKK – PostAK fire season (2010)
New users anticipate operational challenges during learning phase
ICBS-R/ROSS interface tentatively scheduled for post fire season 2010
Data entry requirement is that NFES numbers be 6 digits, meaning that all current numbers will be preceded by 00
NFES numbers in 2010 NFES Catalog will reflect 6 digits
IMTs will need to update pre and initial orders accordingly
I-Suite Bar Code Pilot (I-Supply)
Barcode Pilot was implemented during 2009 fire season to test its capability to support an incident with an IMT assigned
Two IMTs were identified in California that would allow the testing
The testing was to determine the import of packing lists and the scanning of barcode labels on cache items
What’s next
Develop an I-Suite Supply Kit
Continue testing in 2010
Develop implementation strategy

XXXXXX Kit, Sign, Roadside
Have identified the components for the kit
- Includes roll up pink signs, Velcro attachments, installation sign guide, tape, base/posts, and mounting brackets
Will be available on a limited basis in 2010
- Goal is to have sign kits fully stocked and available by the 2011 fire season
NFES # and any additional pertinent information will be shared when availablethrough national logistics and geographic IMT mailing lists
001048 Sprinkler Kit
Sprinkler Head (Reduced from 8 to 4 EA)
- Quantity of associated components reduced accordingly, resulting intotal kit weight of 37-38 lbs
- Will provide for increased flexibility by enabling users to order the optimal number of sprinklers needed to correspond to the pumps being utilized (i.e., one sprinkler kit for applications with lightweight pumps and two or more sprinkler kits when used with larger capacity pumps)
Sprinkler stake assembly clamp (Added 8 EA)
Packsack (Added 1 EA)
Proposal to transition from the old style 000928 Sprinkler Kit to the new 001048 Sprinkler Kit (2008) is being discussed

Status of Action Items of Interest
Action Item: Develop spike camp kit standard
Tabled as no new information received or need to develop a standard kit based on how the caches can support currently
Action Item: Carry a “reducer” fitting in the caches for collapsible 6000 gallon tanks (all collapsible – 3000, 4800, 6000)
Discussion:
- There was concurrence that providing standardized couplings on the various collapsible tanks currently carried in the cache system would offer operational advantages and options to field users, specifically allowing for coupling mounted gravity fed hose lay or coupling compatibility with MK III pump suction hose. Although standardized couplings are a desirable outcome it is not a critical need or essential to transition immediately as the operations discussed above can be performed without using the couplings. As a result, a retrofit of existing tanks is not warranted. A transition to standardized couplings can be obtained through establishing standardized coupling specifications on future acquisitions and the attrition of older stocks of collapsible tanks.
Decision:
- No retrofit of current tanks
- Incorporate 2” female NPSH tank flange requirement into future collapsible tank procurement specifications
- It is recommended that the 2” double male fitting described as follows be added to NFES: Double Male Adaptor Coupling: 2” NPSH x 2” NPSH
Action Item: Hazards of manila rope fibers into skin and infection potential. Because of this some individuals wear masks and double gloves.
Discussion:
- Recommendation from submitter is to replace with nylon rope
Decision:
- MTDC will research rope that would work best to replace manila rope in wall tent and flys and submit to NFES
