TSA (Technology Student Association)

Students prepare projects in various computer applications such as web page design, newsletter creation, digital photography, graphic design, video game design as well as engineering type competitions where students build Co2 cars, model bridges, balsa gliders. As you have seen this morning we are also actively involved in robot design and building. TSA also promotes leadership and character building activities for a well rounded citizen. Students may be a part of the TSA enrichment class (year long class) by contacting Mr. Hughes.

National Junior Honor Society

Sponsors: Tonya Harrelson, Cindy Florey, Melody Early
Students must be in 7th or 8th grade to qualify. Qualifications include an overall 3.5 GPA with no discipline record. In addition to scholarship, students must also demonstrate character, leadership, service and citizenship attributes. If students met the academic requirement and have no discipline record, the faculty then votes on membership.

FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America).

This club does community service activities within the Family and Consumer Science classes for outreach in the community. The FCCLA also holds several cooking contest throughout the year as well as works with students on leadership skills and character development.

Library Club

Sponsor: Annette Grube:
The library club meets once a month from 3:05 – 4:00.

Students give a book talk about a book they have read and then the group discusses the book.

Students who would like to video their book talk may do so and it will be on the computer for other students to view.

The Computer Team

Members compete at the Southwest Alabama Regional Computer Fair held at Faulkner State Community College. They compete in categories such as Computer Literacy, Robotics, Multimedia, Video Production, Programming, and Web Page Creation. Projects are submitted in the spring, but it is never too early to get started.

Science Club

Open to all 7th and 8th graders in good standing (behavior issues need not apply!) Cost is $15 for the entire year. We meet once a month through the school year. Listen for the announcements in September and pick up an application.

SCHOLAR'S BOWL

Sponsors: Amanda Cushman and David Lee
The Fairhope Middle Scholar’s Bowl Team competes in both Baldwin and Mobile Counties against other Middle Schools answering questions on all topics of knowledge. Students “audition” to join the team the second week of the school year by taking a test of trivia type questions. The 2010/2011 team earned the opportunity to compete at both the County and State level. This year’s team won first place at the University of South Alabama Super Tournament – competing against teams from Mobile, Baldwin and Escambia Counties. The team brought home three trophies, numerous medals, a $1000 check, and $100 for each team member.
