•Developed collaboration between the Cityof North Miami, Little Haiti Housing Association and the Boston Museum of Science that lead to building two state of the art computer labs to services 20underservedneighborhood youth at each location.

•Cultivated relationships with Arsht Performing Arts Center and the Negro League Baseball Museum for unique programming and fund raising opportunities that resulted in creating scholarships for area to attend performing arts and sports camps.

NATIONAL RECREATION and PARKS ASSOCIATION (NRPA)

Managed daily operations of the association which included a $9 million budget, 60 person staff and 23,000 members.Represented the interests of individuals and agencies engaged in the development and delivery of recreation and park related services.Supervised 13 divisions of the organization.

Accomplishment

•Managed a federal grant process for continued funding of the association mission and the local municipalities resulting in a 3.5 million dollar capacity building grant.

CINCINNATI RECREATION COMMISSION

June 1998-April 2002

Responsible for a $12.4 million budget, 125 full-time staff, over 500 part-time employees and 475 seasonal employees.; included 29 community centers, 47 aquatic centers and over 2,500 acres of outdoor athletic and playground facilities and Tennis courts. Additionally, directed the operations programs and services at the Central Riverfront, Senior and Special Populations, Regional divisions, Golf, Marketing and Public Relations and Personnel. Interfaced with city department directors, school district representatives, boards and community constituents to develop partnership for shared facility use and programs.

Accomplishments

• Managed a$5.5 million building renovation of three new community centers and community two pools resulting increased services for two underserved communities

•Cultivated relationships with major corporations to secure $300,000 new funding for youth programs including Hoop-Fest, summer concert series and development workshops which served more than 3000 underserved youth.

KANSAS CITY RECREATION DEPARTMENT

Responsible for a $12 million operating,15.3 million capital budget, 75 full-time staff, direction, coordination and development of a diverse recreation program to include 5 golf courses, athletics, 10 community centers, seniors special populations, aquatics, playgrounds 105 Tennis courts, environmental education 2 nature centers, and 4 heritage museums.

Accomplishments

  • Lead efforts to pass a special $15.3 million city tax to build five new community centers in under-served areas.
  • Created the nationally acclaimed Mayor’s Night Hoops and the Mayor’s Urban Symposium Tournament (MUST), a late night crime prevention alternative program which served approximately 1,000 youth locally and 12 teams from other cities across the United States with spectators numbering approximately 3,000 weekly, resulting in a 25% reduction in crime in the key service areas.
