Nampa Christian High School

COLG Meeting 12-13-06

Nampa Christian High School

16 Members Present: Susan Ankeny, Barb Bowman, Marlene Earnest, Nancy Finney, Mary Lou Hobson, Darlene Hotchkiss, Jean Kollman, Sharon Larrondo, Ann Nelson-Adamson, Glynda Pflieger, Peggy Rabe, Sherry Thomas, Sharon Villines, Tricia Wells, Sheri Winchester and Yvonne Wittkopf.

The meeting was held at the Nampa Christian High School Library, with Ginger Riggins hosting. President Marlene Earnest called the meeting to order, and announced that Ginger was unable to be present because she was ill. Karen Davies was also absent because of an illness in her family.

We moved to the reports from the officers. Glynda Pflieger, vice president, gave a report on the Video/DVD catalog. She just sent out the form for adding and deleting materials from our list. She made a couple of changes. The title will be all in capital letters, and DVDs will be interfiled into the videos instead of being at the end. We will call it the Video/DVD catalog to make this transition easier. She also said that Homedale Public Library will no longer be in COLG, so we may need to take out their videos. The title will be in bold type, and all of the libraries who own a certain title will be grouped with that title, even though the call number may be different. Also, Parma Public both loaned and borrowed, but does not have a list of their videos in the catalog – should it? Glynda will email the librarians for more information. Glynda is sorting through the list of videos from Caldwell Public to see which are the new ones that need to be added. To access the catalog, go to www.colg.us. The link from the COLG webpage can be found at www.colg.lili.org.

The secretary’s report came next. The minutes of last month’s meeting were approved.

Barb Bowman gave the treasurer’s report, noting that there is a balance of $340.30.

Sherry Thomas reported as the web designer. She hasn’t worked on it lately, but plans to put the approved minutes on the web page so they can be accessed for reference. There was a consensus not to put all of the members’ names on because they can be found other places, and they change quite often. Sherry also had a copy of the most recent ICFL Newsletter, in which there was a picture and article about the award Marlene Earnest received at the ILA Conference in Moscow in October, for the Idaho School Library Media program of the year.

Then Marlene announced again about next year’s AASL annual meeting in Reno in October. She would like for as many to go as possible. Also, the ILA Annual Conference will be during Teachers’ Conferences in Nampa at the Civic Center, October 3, 4 and 5 of 2007. School librarians should plan to attend because there will be many sessions that will be of interest to them.

At this time, Ann Nelson-Adamson gave us an update on this conference. She and Elaine Leppert of Caldwell Public Library will be co-chairmen for the facilities. They are asking for anyone who wants to help to contact them. Some of the areas they need help in are:

Transportation issues

Goodie bags for registration

Loan of AV equipment

Computer troubleshooter who could also put information on the web page

Evaluation forms

Introductions for speakers

The Idaho State Library will be doing the pre-conference. It will be given by Peggy McClendon and Stephanie Bailey-White. The ILA Legislative breakfast will be Thursday, January 11. Some of our librarians should try to attend to thank the legislators for all they are doing for libraries.

Marlene announced that there are some informative webinars coming up. To see a calendar, we can log on to http://libraries.idaho.gov/event. There is a sneak preview of the new Ebsco databases. We have lost the old ones, but have gained others. Also, Thomson/Gale and Proquest will have databases. We can do the preview and maybe have Gina P. from the ICFL give us some training and the highlights of the databases in February. There may be training through ICFL in January.

Our speaker for the meeting was Mary Lou Hobson, who had a list of books that she has read and recommends for us. There were 22 books in all, and they all sounded really great. Sherry Thomas added that Jan Brett has a wonderful website – just www.janbrett.com.

We didn’t have the girlfriends sharing because of lack of time, so will do that at the next meeting. Marlene finished by announcing there were free mugs, pencils, mouse pads, mending rubber bands from the representative in our area for Highsmith Library Supplies, Steve Hall. The next meeting will be held at South Middle School in Nampa on January 10, 2007.

Respectfully submitted,

Sharon Larrondo, Acting Secretary
