The action plan for the year 2009-2010 was designed in accordance with the directives of the NAAC as follows:

Anti ragging Committee was formulated in the month of June 2009 to prevent the incident of ragging in any form. The committee was constituted with senior faculty members and student representatives Slogans were displayed in the campus on anti ragging and repeated instructions and announcements were passed to the students. Phone numbers of committee members along with the instruction sheet was given to the students.

Orientation and workshop for the teaching faculty on enhancing research publication andin June,July and October 2009 was conducted.

Orientation on “How to write ResearchPaper” was conducted on June 3rd, 2009 and Dr Shankaranarayan,Director, B.S.AbdurRahmanUniversity, Chennai acted as the resource person.

  • Workshop entitled “Enhancing Research Culture” on 10th July 2009 conducted by theQuality Circle for Research. Dr K Alagusundaram Indian Institute of Crops Tanjore,and DrS.Kanagaraj Head of the department of English, Director, Distance Education, MaduraiKamarajUniversity were the resource persons.
  • All the staff members and PG students of all departments attended the workshop on the topic “Supporting users of Electronic Data Resources in Research and Teaching” on 6th October 2009. Mr. Sri Murugan, Former Chief Librarian and Head Dept. of Library Information Science, Madurai Kamaraj University Madurai was the resource person.

Orientation and workshop for the teaching faculty on improving communication was conducted in June.

  • Staff members attended five day orientation programme for the freshers on“Development of the Communication Skills” Dr P Iyyadurai, was the resource person.
  • A two day orientation programme on “Learning How to Frame Questions” was conducted by the Quality Circle for research on 15th & 16th June 2009 Dr P Iyyaduraiwas the resource person.

To conduct counseling for the freshers [students] with regard to their choice of the course in July 2009.

  • 15 days Bridge Intensive course for the first year students was conducted by the staff members of the Department of English from 22nd June to 9th July 2009.
  • Counselling was given to all the students for selecting the parallel programmes on 15th July 2009.

To strengthen the placement cell and to arrange a job fair in August 2009.

  • The placement cell was unable to conduct a job fair but took initiatives to conduct few programmes for the students in hand with the student development quality circle .The following activity was carried out.
  • As a kind of progressive programmes quality circle for student development organized certain Seminars and Workshops for our college students to highlight few.
  • A one day workshop on “Personality Development” for all the final year UG and PG students. Janab N Zahir Hussain, HRD Trainer, Erode delivered a lecture.
  • Mr. Hameed Jalal from Hong Kong addressed the students on “Job Opportunities in Global Level” on 20th January 2010.

Centralization of the Continuous Internal Assessment wasexecuted in well organized way. Three internal tests were conducted for all the PG and UG students as per the schedule given in the college calendar.

Allotment of wards was monitored by getting timely feedback from the ward teacher and the grievances posted in the green box.

Course feedback from the students was conducted at the end of each semester and the modifications requested was represented to the concerned heads of the department few to mention.

  • Requisition for more internship module by Nutrition department students.
  • Requisition for internship byMicrobiology department students.
  • Requisition of newer applications in information technology by Information technology students.

To update the information regarding research, seminar, conference, symposium etc., attended and publications of each faculty member.

This was well documented by getting the monthly report from each department.

Activity room for each department was set up by fixing LCDS,System Mike and aesthetic interiors.

To effectively use multimedia teaching and learning rooms schedule was incorporated in department timetable for effective use of the multimedia teaching and learning rooms

Exit meeting for outgoing students was conducted with a help of a questionnaire and each department students were met separately and asked about the strength,weakness,opportunity and threats about the institution and self

Feed back for various programmes organized in the college were obtained from the students and consolidation is made to evolve with suggestions for further improvement.

To receive the peer team for re-accreditation in the month of August 2009.

Mock Peer Team visit was organized on 23rd and 24th of October 2009.Dr Gordon and Father Arul Raj from ANJACollege,Sivakasi acted as mock peer team members.

The IQAC members along with the NACC steering committee coordinatedall the activities during the peer team visit on 27th -29th, October, 2009.

PART - B

II - 1.Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution

  1. All the programmes and activities were oriented towards the achievement of the vision and mission of the institution to provide quality education to the socially and economically backward community women
  2. The aim with which autonomy was achieved is gradually fulfilled by introducing courses and programmes which utilize the locally available resources and to enable the empowerment of the womenfolk of the locals through various need based programmes
  3. The purpose of disseminating knowledge of all disciplines to all the students is served by means of the inter-disciplinary courses
  4. Values and ethics play a vital role in the curriculum

2. New academic programmes initiated:

a)We have initiated the Shift System in taking the concern of Minority Muslim Women folk for Higher Education and optimum utilization of infrastructure. The new courses initiated under shift II system for this academic year were started for the benefit of the rural students.

b)New courses like BBA, M Sc Information Technology, M Sc Bio-technology, M Phil in Commerce were introduced in shift-II

c)The Department of Home Science – Food and Nutrition]had a four member Research Committee inception from Alagappa University on 22nd October 2009 to upgrade the Department of Home Science as a Research Centre to offer M Phil [Regular] & Ph D in regular and part time basis from 2010-11 onwards and was approved by the syndicate of Alagappa University.

3. Innovation in curricular design and transaction:

a)Soft-skills development programme has been incorporated into the regular curriculum and credits have been allotted. The institution has provided atrainers training programme on “Soft Skill” for 20 staff members in the month of January, February, and March for 5 days. Dr Jeyachandran, Course Director, MemorySchool, Chennai was a resource person. These trained faculty will conduct soft skilldevelopment programme for all the students of the institution for a week, two days being allotted for every year [I, II & III]

b)Separate programmes on Mubalika and Thirukkural is provided as compulsory add on courses for muslim and non-muslim students.

c)Village Placement Programme was arranged for our II M Sc students at Kavanur from 15th March 2010 to 19th March 2010.

d)Diploma in Information Technology course for the minority students of Ramanathapuram District is conducted in our campus by the funds received from the Backward Classes and Minorities Welfare Office, Ramanathapuram.

e)Everon Learning Centre organizes special lectures and seminars to popularize the use of VSAT technology. Students are given the option to enroll themselves in order to utilize the benefit. Postgraduate students do their projects in collaboration with professional agencies in order to refine their skills.

f)Students of Home Science, Chemistry, Microbiology, English Literature and Computer Applications undergo internship training.

g)The Diploma in Marine Ornamental Fish Culture programmeoffered from the department of Bio-technology has collaboration with CMFRI, Mandapam for students to undergo theory and practical classes from 2009-10. The MoU was signed on 11th June 2009 at CMFRI, Cochin. This is the first off-campus programme of TBAKCollege under autonomy.

Whenever and wherever necessary on-line teaching is adopted. Students submit their assignment on-line. On-line testing and on-line evaluation are being done. Continuous internal assessment marks are registered in the eSRM enabling the parents to know about the performance and results of the students immediately.Rules for the following were modified

Valuation is done by a team of external examiners and results are published with in 15 days of the last examination, after the approval of the University Nominees appointed by the AlagappaUniversity. Central Valuation System was implemented.

To encourage more teachers to present papers at international conferences, half of the registration fee is reimbursed to the teachers on recommendation of the IQAC.

Three of the faculty members have registered for Ph D programme

External Peer Assessment is a part of the annual best practice of facilitating faculty development at our institution. Every year external peers are invited to audit classes in order to offer suggestions to individual teachers to improve their pedagogic practice. Such assessments all reinforced by feedback obtained from students on teachers’ support.

Individual performance of the staff members has been appraised by the principal during Nov 2009.

The management has a corpus fund of Rs 2 lakhs to support various minor research projects of the faculty members. Research committee invites proposals from faculty for scrutiny every year.

Under Seethakathi NGO, we are liasioning Rajiv Gandhi Rehabilitation Project (RGRP) and Emergency Tsunami Rehabilitation Project (ETRP)

The Members of the TBAKC’s citizen consumer club and Ms S Latha, Senior Lecturer, Department of Commerce went to Mavilanthoppu village and created awareness on various rights and protections available to consumers on 10th August 2009.

TBAKC’s citizen consumer club conducted an awareness programme on “Food Adulteration” at PeriyapattinamVillage on 24th September 2009.

Blood donation camp was conducted on august 13th. 101 NSS volunteers and public donated blood .the camp was jointly organized by the NSS unit & MeenakshiMissionHospital, Madurai

From January 23rd- 29th special camp was organized at Erwadi and 125 NSS volunteers participated along with 3 NSS programme officers

Breast feeding camp was conducted in Thirupalaikudi on 8thAugust2009. Mrs.Z.Tajunisha Begam and Mrs. S.Muthu Mareeswari gave lecture cum demonstration on breast feeding practices, weaning foods, healthy diet .6 staff members and 40 students attended the awareness camp and nearly 350 public benefited from the programme

As a part of nutrition week celebration recipes for Ramazan were demonstrated by the students and tips regarding the foods to be avoided and included during Ramazan were also given. This programme was telecasted on 14th & 15th September in local cable TV run by Kilakarai Education Charitable Trust (KECT).

Infant and Young Child Feeding training program was conducted for Trained madarasa halimas of Erwadi, Ramnad, Sivagangai & Kilakarai on feeding infants in the right way from 7th December 2009 to 12th December 2009 Ms. Nirmala Selvam was acted as Resource person.

Cancer Awareness Program was conducted at Erwadi on 26th Jan 2010. Dr. Mohan Prasad, Department of Oncology, RajajiMedicalCollege, Madurai was the resource person delivered the lecture on causes, symptoms, types and prevention of cancer and Dr.Sumayaa felicitated the gathering. Beneficiaries are NSS Students, Students of Home Science and People at Erwadi.

February 6th, 2010 the NSS unit along with the UNWO, Ramnad and Madurai Acupuncture clinic conducted an Acupuncture medical camp and public were benefited.

Nutritional Awareness camp was conducted at Oppilan. Mrs. Z. Tajunisha Begam, Ms.K.M.Bhuvaneswari and I M Sc Students gave lecture cum demonstration. Nearly 100 public benefited from the programme on 26th Feb 2010.

On 28th January 2010, 25 students attended the “Rally” at Ramanathapuram, under the leadership of Mr Hariharan, District Collector, Rmanathapuram, and on the same day meeting was conducted at “Valampuri Mahal” and preventive measures for HIV/AIDS were discussed. 9 colleges in Ramanathapuram District participated in the Rally.

On 20th March 2010, 214 RRC volunteers along with 5 staff, members visited “Red Ribbon Express” at Rameswaram.
