Over the years I have researched and lectured in various subjects including Equity and Equitable remedies such as injunctions, restitution and tracing, Law of Contract, Property Law, Urban Planning Law, Company Law (post-graduate level), Administrative Law, The Law of Trusts/Trustees and Trust Accounts and Legal Practice.

Teaching at the University entails continous research in the subjects taught. For purposes of company law I have continuously carried out comparative research to compare the company law existing in the country with other jurisdictions including both Commonwealth jurisdictions and non-Commonwealth jurisdictions such as the U.S.A.

Currently engaged in research on the Economics of Public Enterprise Law in Kenya towards a PhD thesis.

April 1988 - May 1991 Advocate in Commercial and Conveyancing Department with

Veljee Devshi & Bakrania Advocates and also in charge of staff

management and attending to litigation arising from commercial matters.

June 1991 to date Advocate with Harit Sheth Advocates dealing mainly with bank security documentation, conveyancing, company matters, Trusts, intellectual property matters and other commercial law practice as well as civil/commercial litigation and arbitration. I also deal with office administration and personnel matters.

1999 to dateServing as Company Secretary to various private limited liability companies.

November 2003 to dateSitting as a member of the State Corporations Advisory Committee deliberating broad policy issues affecting the public enterprises sector in Kenya and making various recommendations for the improvement of the performance of the sector including coming up with guidelines for best management practices by State Corporations.

I am currently involved in the review of the State Corporations Act, Chapter 446 of the laws of Kenya and other legislation governing State Corporations and government regulatory agencies.

During my time as a member of the Committee we have been involved in recommendations concerning good corporate governance including the running of the corporations themselves, procurements by the corporations and investment by the corporations as well as performance contracts of CEOs of corporations and management.

LEGAL PRACTICE EXPERIENCE

I have wide experience in all matters relating to company formation, creation of securities by companies including debentures, mortgages and charges, acquisition of shares in companies, disputes arising under the Companies Act (Cap 486, laws of Kenya) including rectification of share registers, oppression of minority shareholders and winding up of companies.

I have acted in cases involving receiverships and liquidation of companies and all matters attendant to such receivership and liquidation. I have also been involved in restructuring of companies and company borrowings, due diligence exercises, etc.

From the time I began practice I have been involved in conveyancing including sales and transfers of both developed and undeveloped land, leases, sub-divisions, bank security documentation over real estate and litigation arising therefrom, etc. I have also been involved in all other aspects of commercial law practice including drawing of diverse contracts, joint venture agreements, partnership agreements, trust deeds, business purchase agreements, guarantees, loan agreements, intellectual property matters and commercial/civil litigation in general.

I have also experience in family law matters including matrimonial causes, division of matrimonial property, adoption and guardianship of children.

OTHER ACTIVITIES

Joined Kenya Junior Chamber in 1986 holding various positions at Chapter and National levels culminating with National Chairman in 1996. I have participated in various community projects and training seminars over the years within the organisation. I have also traveled to various countries representing Kenya within the organization and for leadership training seminars. I take an active part in matters concerning International House New York and I am a World Council member representing Kenya. I am the current vice chairman of the Nyari Residents Welfare Society and Satelite representative for Nyari West on the Executive Committee of the society. I am also the chairman cum secretary of two private investment companies.
