POLICY:

Other Employment:

Most appointing authorities will discourage you from holding a full or part-time job outside your regular county job. Outside work will not be permitted if it is any way connected with your county job or if it creates a conflict of interest. A second job, should you secure one, should not decrease your contribution to and efficiency in your job with the Sevier County Jail. Any outside employment must have the approval of the Sheriff.

Resignation:

An employee should notify the Chief Deputy in writing two weeks in advance of his or her expected termination date. This is a common courtesy followed in most businesses.

Layoff:

Sometimes, because of a curtailment of work or shortage of funds, it is necessary for an agency to reduce its work force. When this happens, every effort is made to place the affected employees in other jobs. Regular employees will not be subject to lay off until all temporary employees occupying the same type of position have been dismissed. Both performance and length of service must be given consideration.

Employee Paid Holidays:

With the exception of clerical personnel, employees will be paid for the following holidays:

1. NEW YEAR'S DAY

2. GOOD FRIDAY DAY

3. MEMORIAL DAY

4. INDEPENDENCE DAY

5. LABOR DAY

6. VETERANS DAY

7. THANKSGIVING DAY / 2 DAYS

8. CHRISTMAS DAY / 2 DAYS

9. MARTIN LUTHER KING DAY (Effective 2003)

NOTE: IN ORDER TO RECEIVE HOLIDAY PAY YOU MUST BE WORKING OR ON YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED DAY OFF.
