Brief introduction of apps:

Child Development. 0-6 years is a free mobile app that helps users to access information in relation to child developmental milestones; utilise theoretical frameworks via knowledge summaries and references to enhance understanding of child development. Users could also use this app to make better decisions based on evidence whilst on practice placement or within the work setting. Users could also use this app to understand the impact of child if teachers and social workers neglect on child development such as needs of children. Through this app, users could critically make reflections on social work or early year's observational skills and knowledge as we are more familiar with their developmental stages and those suitable approaches to teach and be with children.

Strengths about this app:

This app is developed by The Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC). This organization has been working in partnership with Skills for Care and Development, the University of Ulster and Queens University Belfast to develop this mobile application for Child Development. This app presents a cost effective method of delivering peer reviewed educational materials. According to this reason, it helps preschool teachers and Early Childhood Education students to know extra information out of the lectures. It helps students to finish their assignment paper by providing them more background and basic knowledge, which give them a direction while doing assignments.

Areas that need improvement:

Actually this app is just an app, there is no interactive process while the users using this app. Therefore some users might feel that it is boring to use this app as it mostly contains words and theories. It might be quite hard to encourage students to use this mobile app if they are not really motivated to read extra information and interested in child development. It could an extra workload for preschool teachers to read a lot of words while they have to do a lot of paper work and prepare for coming lessons and teaching materials. Therefore I believe there will be a room of improvement for this app to include some interactive parts to benefit learning.
