Newsletter

December 7, 2017

It is Advent and we counting the days until Jesus is born! Some of us may also be counting the days until Christmas break. December is a busy time for everyone and this newsletter details important information.

We completed the first Feast of the Immaculate Conception Week with our school wide rosary project today. The week included special presentations by Mrs. Ann Graham and Bishop Hoeppner. Thank you both for sharing your knowledge and experiences with the students. This weekend, look for the entries in the Coloring Contest of the Immaculate Conception ornaments in the Gathering Space of the Church. Vote for your favorite. Fr. Augie, thank you for teaching us how to be closer to Jesus when we are close to Mary, his mother. Mrs. Biermaier did an excellent job organizing the week’s events. Thank you for a great start for a new tradition at Cathedral.

A reminder about weather related announcements: The school utilizes various methods to alert families about weather related delays, cancellations, or early dismissal. CATHEDRAL WILL ALWAYS FOLLOW WHAT THE CROOKSTON PUBLIC SCHOOLS ARE DOING when it involves weather. We use text notifications, KROX announcements, and the school’s Facebook page. A two-hour delay is a delay for staff as well, and there is no student supervision until 9:30 am. Please do not drop off your student any earlier than that time. As with technology, sometimes things do not work as planned as in the case of the delayed start. The power outages turned off the school’s remote texting capabilities, which is why we use multiple channels to get the message out to our families. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

  • For Prekindergarten families, on days with a delayed start, the morning session of PK is automatically cancelled.

If you need any last minute Christmas gifts, don’t forget Cathedral Scrip. Orders must be placed by the end of the day Monday, December 11, for arrival by Christmas. Scrip sales from the school office will run until Wednesday, December 20, at noon. All Scrip sales benefit the school through the portion given back to the school by the retailer.

In addition, to help with your shopping needs use Amazon Smile just like regular Amazon with the added benefit of naming Cathedral as your charity. Go to designate Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, and shop as usual.

Mrs. Carlson is busy working with the students and practicing for our Advent Program, Count Down to Christmas, which is coming up on Tuesday, December 19 at 7:00 PM.

Upcoming meetings: PACE – Monday December 11 at 7:00 pm

School Advisory Council – Tuesday December 12 at 6:00 pm

Mardi Gras Meeting – Tuesday December 12 at 7:00 pm

There will be hospitality after the Advent Program and families are asked to bring cookies or bars to share. PACE is in need of several persons to help with the reception. Please contact SheaProulx or Shane Heldstab.

One more note, Cathedral’s policy is that students will be outside for morning and lunch recess unless the temperature or wind chill is below zero. Please make sure your student wears all the appropriate cold weather gear including hats, gloves, snow pants, and boots.

  • Cathedral does not have school on Friday, December8 due to the Feast of the Immaculate Conception, a Holy Day of Obligation.

In faith,

Patricia Jones,

Principal

Our Cathedral School family creates an environment where faith, family, and knowledge shine.
