My Laptop Called......

My laptop called the other day and asked me where I've been. After an uncomfortable silence, I had to tell it the truth. “Laptop , you know I love you but I've been seeing another device. It's a tablet and frankly, I'm head over heels in love” There was crying involved but we parted friends.

I can't lie. I am truly in love with my new tablet, and it's basically the reason for this article. Mobile communications is not new, but boy has it grown up. With a mobile device such as a smart phone or tablet, you can answer email, find a restaurant and any discounts they may be offering, play pseudo-scrabble with friends while getting thrown off of a plane and find your way out of the Mojave Desert to the nearest Burger King. Truly amazing, but with all amazing things there are some problems. The problem here is one of a learning curve and that's where I come in.

As a contributor to the Chamber’s new “Marketing Matters” column, in the upcoming months I will provide you with information on new marketing technologies to take your business to the next level. You can dazzle your friends with explanations of near field communications (NFC) or augmented reality (AR). Discuss the latest QRtists and how their QR Code artwork is changing the face of modern art. Lecture your marketing team on why they are now called Qrarketers and demand that they make your Website mobile. All kinds of neat stuff like that.

All kidding aside, this is the future of how we will conduct business, communicate and generally live our day-to-day lives. As consumers, we will expect instantaneous response to our needs; and as business people, we better be able to respond to those needs or someone else will. It's the reason I coined the term Qrarketing, which is simply “The Art Of Quick Response Marketing”. You first read about QR codes in the GOTCC “Tech Talk” column a few months ago (if you missed it, it is archived at gotcc.org/newslist.html). They are cubes with patterns that you can scan with a smart device and get something or somewhere. They are becoming a really big thing. If used properly, they can be of tremendous utility. Which for the most part they are not. Stay tuned for my article on Qrarketing and taking it to new heights for your business! If I have my say, and I kinda do, that will change. So till then,, thanks for your time and don't forget to Qrarket.
