Dear Fraters,

I wanted to update you on our progress and give you an idea of what’s to come in the next few months. Thanks to you all, in just over a week I have gotten an amazing response from my initial recruitment and organizational efforts. The Association's Facebook account has over 140 friends. Over 60 of our brothers have sent me their contact info and joined our ranks! We have totally blown away my original goal of having 40+ members when I submit the Charter Application.

Today I spoke with frater Scott Kazem, and he is going to handle the paperwork we need filed in order to get our nonprofit organization classification with the state. This is the biggest hurdle that groups like us usually encounter, so please join me in giving Scott a big round of snaps for his efforts here. As soon as this paperwork goes through we will be able to set up a checking account and be able to operate as a functioning body.

I also recently spoke with Fraters Billy Reilly and Sean Kelley. They have offered their help with setting up some social events for us. We’ll hold a few meet and greet type events in the near future so everyone can reconnect and have some fun. With their experience and connections, we will be looking at setting up events at a few fine establishments that will make donations to our association in return for us holding functions there. Thanks to them for their support.

In addition, I’d like to recognize Fraters Tim Keller and Doug Sarver for starting work on our web site and mailing list. If you have any ideas of content or features you’d like to see on the site, please let us know as we will be finishing the design in the coming weeks and we’d love to make it an effective tool and resource for us. Also big thanks to fraters Kevin Geist and Jonny Perez for letting me bounce my ideas off of them, giving me advice and keeping me motivated.

So as you can see, we can make some incredible progress when working together, so I’ve got big goals for us for our first term starting in August 2009.

I’m going to start by wiping away my original recruitment goal. We demolished my goal of 40 members in less than a week, so I want us to strive to be 100 strong by the time we submit our application!

If you know of a Frater that you don’t see on our roster or listed as a member of this group, please please encourage them to send in their contact information join our ranks. If they are not connected via Facebook, the best way for them to contact the association is with our email address: , and I will have them added to our roster.

Many of you have gotten in touch with me and asked how you can contribute towards our financial needs. As I mentioned we will soon have a checking account to operate out of and we will also propose, vote on, and publish a budget. We have very minimal expenses at this point (yearly state registration fee, every 2 years fee to nationals for a charter) so we will not need much at all to get things rolling. Between myself and a few other generous members, these costs will be covered for us up front. In our first official meeting we’ll calculate what we’ll need to collect to cover our expenses, factor in how many and what types of events we want to sponsor, and based on a membership we’ll propose a budgeting plan to support our financial needs with income that members will vote on before we implement it. Of course impromptu donations outside of what we’ve budgeted for will always be graciously accepted, I only ask that you hold off until we get our corporation registration completed and the checking account set up. Our financial status including account balance will always be made available to any member so you will know where your donations are going and have a say in how they are spent.

I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Yours In The Bond,

Chris Hall
