MTU Maintenancewins Sky Airline from Chile for CFM56-5B maintenance
Zhuhai (China), 26January2015 – The Chilean low-cost carrier Sky Airline has awarded MTU Maintenance an exclusive total engine care maintenance contract covering their fleet of CFM56-5B engines. The contract has a duration of eight years. Apart from core maintenance, MTU Maintenance will provide the airline with spare enginesviaits recently founded engine lease company MTU Maintenance Lease Services B.V. as well as on-site repairs and MTUPlusEngine Trend Monitoring. Sky Airline is therefore benefitting from MTU’s all-encompassing Total Engine Care (TEC®) program. The engines will be overhauled at MTU Maintenance’s Asian location in Zhuhai, China.
MTU Maintenance has been a reliable partner regarding the maintenance of Sky Airline’s V2500 engines since 2010 and is pleased to provide the airline with its longstanding experience and technical expertise for its CFM56-5B engines as well. As part of its fleet modernization, Sky Airline currently operates 26 CFM56-5B engines which power its A319aircraft.The fleet upgrade is accompanied by an expansion of Sky Airline’s destinations throughout South America over the coming years.
Sky Airline is Chile’s second-largest airline and the country’s largest low-cost carrier. The airline was founded in 2001 and operates a fleet of 16Airbus A319 and A320. Sky Airline serves 14 destinations within Chile as well as additional locations in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil and Peru.
Founded in 2002, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai is a 50:50 joint venture between MTU Aero Engines and China’s largest airline group China Southern Air Holding Company. Today, the company is the country’s market leader and among Asia’s top engine maintenance providers. The company is a center of excellence for the repair of V2500 and CFM56 engines. Recently, MTU Maintenance Zhuhai celebrated a milestone with the completion of its1,500th shop visit.
