JOB SUMMARY

Under general supervision, provides first level administrative andtechnical supervision of the general and daily operations of a smallto medium sized electrical trades unit. Incumbents at this leveltypically supervise Trades Chiefs and do not regularly perform tradeswork.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  1. Plans, organizes, assigns, and reviews the technical maintenancework and installation services rendered by unskilled,semi-skilled, and skilled workers assigned to multi trade workteam(s).
  1. Supervises and trains assigned personnel. Performs on-the-jobtraining and participates in performance management process.
  1. Assists in budget projections, budget preparation anddepartmental planning for area of responsibility.
  1. Recommends and oversees internal operating procedures.
  1. Reviews work orders; determines work priority and makesappropriate personnel assignments; makes recommendationsregarding work that falls outside the scope of the shop andsuggests alternatives for timely and appropriate completion.
  1. Ensures adequate supplies, materials, and equipment aremaintained for area(s); initiates and/or prepares documentationrelated to purchase transactions; recommends and supervisesvendors; oversees the ordering process.

  1. Performs estimates of time, labor, and materials to be used onassigned projects. Prepares contractual specifications forconstruction, renovation, or overhaul work to be done by outsidecontractors.
  1. Prepares a variety of special and recurring reports and analysesreflecting daily operations and project status.
  1. Inspects shop and work areas for adherence to safety, sanitary,and security regulations. Ensures area meets establishedstandards.
  1. Inspects completed job assignments for adherence to tradestandards and contract specifications.
  1. Troubleshoots problems and performs maintenance repairs.
  1. Operates and ensures operational readiness and safety of thetools and equipment of the trade(s). Repairs and/or directs therepair of machinery and equipment using hand and power tools, precision measuring devices and testing instruments.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.

EXPERIENCE: Seven years progressively responsible experience in thetrade(s) where assigned to include at least four years in a lead orsupervisory capacity.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES

Comprehensive knowledge of and skill in the methods and techniques ofthe trade where assigned; of the OSHA regulations related to the tradearea. Thorough knowledge of and skill in the practical application ofelectronics, hydraulics, and mechanics as used in maintenance work; ofbasic mathematics including area, volume, weights and the practicalapplication of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions; of theprinciples of supervision in the maintenance trades. Skill in thecare and storage of equipment and supplies used in the trade whereassigned; in the use and maintenance of the tools and equipment of thetrade where assigned; in reading, interpreting, and working fromblueprints, schematics, drawings, and specifications. Ability tocommunicate effectively both orally and in writing; to supervise andtrain skilled and unskilled employees in assigned trade work; to planand organize maintenance work; to determine sufficiency of costestimates prepared by others; to prepare specifications for tools,equipment, materials, and supplies; to prepare summaries and reports;to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery;to work from ladders and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment,tools, and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to concurrentlymanipulate multiple controls on machinery and equipment; to work inhazardous or irritating environments, confined spaces, and adverseweather or temperature conditions; to wear and work in personalprotective equipment.

OTHER:

Except for qualifications established by law, additionalrelated experience and formal education in which one has gained theknowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of thework of the job class may be substituted for the education orexperience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 collegecredits being equivalent to one year of experience.

Employees in this job class may be required to betrained to work with asbestos. Employees in this job class assigned towork with equipment containing CFC refrigerants must achieve andmaintain valid certification in accordance with federal law.
