Introduction

The MSc/Postgraduate Diploma is offered by blended learning and is supported through a variety of on-line learning resources. The course is designed to meet the needs of existing or aspiring managers in health or social care organisations (including the voluntary or independent sector) who wish to develop strategic management skills. The content allows you to explore a number of management areas depending on your development needs and role in the organisation. You may be a first line manager such as a team leader or you may be in a more senior role but may not previously have undertaken a formal management development programme. The course equips you to manage effectively within your organisation and offers you the opportunity to further your career in a management field. The programme team are highly experienced in delivering management development and have a background of publications and research. The course is approved to deliver Chartered Management Institute qualifications.

MSc Health and Social Care Management

Programme Aims

The programme is intended to:

  • A1 Develop internal consultancy, project and management research skills by giving you the opportunity to undertake a substantial work based management project.

Curriculum

The Post Graduate Diploma in Health and Social Care Management

In order to complete this stage of the programme you need to study modules amounting to 120 credits Level MCredit including at least 100 credits at Level M.

The MSc in Health and Social Care Management

In order to complete this stage of the programme you need to study modules amounting to 180 credits Level M, including at least 160 credits at Level M.

Appropriate prior experiential or certificated learning can be included as part of the credit requirements for this programme and can include 20 credits at level 3.

Teaching and Assessment Strategies

Learning outcomes (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO8, LO9 and LO10) are developed through use of learning materials and achieved through a series of activities presented via the VLE as well as facilitated group tutorials and workshops(LO1 , LO2, LO3, LO4, LO9 and LO10)and Key Lectures (LO8). You will be given the opportunity to discuss and analyse the topics from the module via on-line discussionsand workshops (LO1, LO2, LO3, LO4, LO8, LO9 and LO10). Extensive use is made of the Virtual Learning Environment to complement learning materials, to support you and includes relevant web-sites and audio files (LO1-LO5). You will also be offered individual support from the module leader which you can access; face to face, via the telephone, by e-mail, using aninstant messenger, by Skype or Elluminate. Learning outcomes (LO1-LO14) will also be addressed using directed study, this will enable you to develop and expand your knowledge and analytical skills by undertaking guided reading and on-line discussions. Learning outcomes (LO1-LO14) are assessed through written assessment (an online resource called Pebblepad will be available for you to maintain a personal and professional portfolio if you wish).

Learning Resources

The award will be delivered at EThames Graduate School. The Marsh Wall campus at Canary Wharf provides excellent facilities with well equipped lecture theatres and teaching/tutorial rooms. There is computer suite, and a large student common room plus recreational facilities such as pool tables. English support is available which prepares students for their studies at EThames. There is also in-sessional support where required.

The University Library provides a wide range of electronic resources which you can access to support your studies. The library at EThames has a range of printed and electronic resources which you can use. Most of our online journals are available on the internet (both on and off campus), and you can also access your University email account, personal information and course-related materials this way.

You will have access to the University virtual learning environment where you will find a variety of learning resources.

Student Support and Guidance

Course Team

Support for you personally and in your course of study, will be provided by the Course Team at EThames. You will be allocated a personal tutor at EThames who is someone with whom you will be able to talk about any academic or personal concerns. You will be provided with a comprehensive series of handbooks that you can consult on a range of learning issues and your course tutors will be available to consult on subject specific queries. An induction session will be delivered by EThames staff to introduce you to the programme.

Students’ Union

EThames Graduate School and the University of Bradford value the feedback provided by students and collaborate with the Students’ Union, through a system of course representatives and formal staff student forum, so that any issues you wish to raise are addressed rapidly.
