Performance Appraisal:

Please submit a performance appraisal from a peer within MSC Hospitality, preferably one who has seen you perform in a leadership role (coordinator, team leader, executive, etc.). You must submit at least one appraisal; you may submit a second appraisal from if you desire.

Subcommittee Descriptions

Director of Financial Development. Financial Development, formerly known as Legacy and Development, is in charge of raising over 75% of the funds brought into MSC Hospitality. This director is responsible for the organization, coordination and implementation of all tasks related to the Fall and Spring Lost and Found Sale, including but not limited to: sorting, collecting items, delegating tasks to coordinators, and preparing for and hosting the auction. They will also be responsible for planning smaller fundraisers throughout the year, such as profit shares, car washes, Kyle Field and Reed Arena cleanups and other fundraising opportunities. This director will need to display a willingness to explore creative solutions, plan, organize and prioritize work, and set clear goals. Since this director works with staff members from the MSC Box Office and UCEN at length, the ability to put abstract ideas into language and in writing others can easily understand will be valuable.

Director of Internal Relations. This director will be responsible for arranging educational and social events for the entire committee. These opportunities include New Member Gathering as well as the Fall and Spring semester retreats. These retreats should incorporate not only social activities, but activities around goal setting, visioning, program ideation and other activities that help members understand the committee’s purpose within the MSC and the MSC’s mission. Additionally, they will create a semesterly calendar of social functions that provide members the opportunity to get to know the 80-100 members within MSC Hospitality. This director will plan the annual Banquet at the end of the year, where they will be in charge of senior farewells with senior gifts and awards for other committee members. Finally, they are responsible for planning each GCM by reaching out to speakers, facilitators, and campus resources to identify content that will actively develop them as students and global leaders.

Director of Administration. This director will be responsible for the majority of administrative tasks within the committee, such as taking attendance, tracking hours and payment of dues, and reserving rooms for meetings. This year they will take on the legacy aspect of Hospitality, which entails compiling a list of former members of MSC Hospitality and creating methods for members to interact with them (Ex. Newsletters, LinkedIn group, etc.). This subcommittee is tasked with inviting at least one former MSC member to speak at a GCM per semester and will be in charge of any reunion events for former members. They will need to be able to use spreadsheet software and find past MSC member information by using available resources. This represents the competency to plan, organize, and prioritize work. Also, they should be able to represent the organization to individuals outside of the organization. They must be able to hold oneself and members accountable.

Director of Marketing. This director is responsible for using WordPress, Photoshop, etc. to keep the committee’s website and social media current by promoting events, recruitment, etc. The primary aspects of this position are collaborating with MSC Marketing Staff and fellow directors to create a united marketing effort for all Hospitality programs, especially the committee’s recruitment efforts. This individual should be creative in coming up with innovative recruitment strategies that can include but are not limited to giveaway items, meeting announcements, social media boosts, etc. An element of this position is designing, ordering and distributing committee apparel, including committee shirts, nametags, and official polos. Other responsibilities include sending out weekly reminders to the entire committee, which include sign-ups and other information, and collaborating with other directors on projects. This director should be able to write in an engaging way and seek feedback from others while creating advertising materials for programs to influence through effective marketing.

Director of Tours and Traditions. This director will be responsible for organizing Campus, Bonfire Memorial, and MSC tours using the online booking system, respond to all email inquiries in a timely, professional manner when contacted, and training Hospitality members to be knowledgeable and prepared tour This position will work to add and organize events or socials around Aggie traditions, such as Silver Taps, Ring Day, and midnight yell. A special emphasis on being proactive with the planning of the 20th anniversary of the bonfire collapse and MSC Hospitality’s involvement should be prioritized. This director needs to represent the organization to outside groups and develop and facilitate thoughtful presentations, including trainings and presentations about the MSC and Texas A&M’s campus. They should be able to speak effectively in large or small groups.

Director of Special Events. The Special Events Director will be responsible for creating and executing new external programs that will directly benefit Texas A&M students and bring them into the “Living Room of Campus”. He or she will need to brainstorm, collaborate, and research in order to develop ideas for programs. This individual will help us reach the MSC’s goal of being a benchmark for excellence in programming by researching what other student unions and programming boards are doing across the nation and adapting some of their programs to ensure our students are exposed to the most effective and impactful programming activities. This director should be an energetic self-starter who can explore creative solutions and evaluate options to best help the committee reach its goals. The ability to “map” or connect the purpose or primary goals of MSC Hospitality to its activities and programs will be crucial as they develop new program initiatives.

Director of Service. This director will be responsible for all weekly service events, including the Waterford Senior Center game nights, and coordinating volunteers for miscellaneous campus events such as Career Fairs and departmental events. This director will prepare the Hospitality teams for Big Event. They will also be in charge of locating local philanthropies and finding members to participate in events that MSC Hospitality will sponsor. Also, they will be the liaison between MSC Hospitality and Camp for All, Habitat for Humanity, The Bush School, and Twin City Missions. This director is also encouraged to find additional service opportunities for the overall development of the organization and its members, such as team service projects for the organization to do together. This director will also be responsible for approving, documenting and reporting all service hours on Maroonlink submitted by members. The ability to understand quantitative data and accurately explain what numbers mean will be helpful in this role.

Director of MSC Open House. This director will be the student lead on MSC Fall Open House and Spring Open House. They will be in charge of working with MSC staff and other organizations across campus to facilitate and coordinate MSC Open House. Main tasks include registration of groups, advertising registration and event, assisting with table assignments, volunteer coordination and training and day-of tasks. This director must have great teamwork and communication skills as they will be tasked with working with MSC staff on a weekly basis over summer and winter breaks. They will also have to create and maintain an effective relationship with University Center (UCEN). The ability to work in a team structure and work cooperatively with others, seeking their involvement and feedback is highly preferred. Additionally, the ability to achieve balance between education, work, and unstructured free time will be critical due to the extensive amount of planning involved with this program.

Director of Campus and Community. This director will be responsible for creating and executing external, service oriented programming focused on the community behind Texas A&M University. They will have the responsibilities of planning Kindergarten Book Tour during the Spring Semester and planning and running Halloween Party in the Fall Semester. This executive is encouraged to apply for grants and fundraise for service projects such as Kindergarten Book Tour. Developing new external, service-oriented programs focused on the community is welcomed if the director wishes to explore additional programming opportunities. This individual must be able to measure the service and impact on the constituents of our programs to verify the effectiveness of our programming efforts. They also must be able to develop the right programs to reach the desired outcome of excellent community outreach. This includes managing program development, implementation, and evaluation in an organized manner.

Director of Hosting. This director will host Howdy Hour, with the intention of drawing Texas A&M students to the MSC. This executive will continue to facilitate the development and success of Howdy Hour, with a goal of increasing the number of attendees and name prestige of Howdy Hour. They are also encouraged to assist with creating unity within the MSC Student Programs Office by planning one SPOcial or SPOgram per semester. They should be able to utilize delegation as a means to involve members and understand the skill set of membership to utilize it effectively for engaging them in accomplishing the group’s goals. They need to measure impact on the student body through conducting surveys of program attendees. They will need to represent the organization to outside groups in a positive way. The most important trait needed in this director is the ability to explore creative solutions while managing development, implementation, and evaluation of this relatively new program.

The above duties have been established as the areas of focus that will aid in the development and sustainability of MSC Hospitality. We encourage all Executive members to create new program ideas that support and promote the mission of MSC Hospitality and the Memorial Student Center.

Director Expectations

1. Commitment:

MSC Hospitality is a yearlong commitment. We understand and appreciate that you may be involved in other organizations as well; however, being a part of the MSC Hospitality Executive Team will require you to fulfill certain minimum requirements that will not change. Please remember that you will be an executive member of MSC Hospitality before you will be a regular member of any other organization. These commitments include:

Attend weekly Executive meetings on Tuesday nights at 5:30 pm

Attend bi-weekly General Committee Meetings on Tuesday nights

Lead subcommittee meetings

Attend all-member retreats

Act as a representative of MSC Hospitality at all times

2. Executive Team Policy: Please read the following policy for executive team members:

Executive team members are expected to:

MSC Hospitality executive members will maintain a minimum 2.25 GPR for each semester in office and a cumulative 2.25 GPR.

To comply with University regulations, MSC Hospitality executive members must have a cumulative GPR or 2.0 or greater and a minimum 2.0 GPR for the semester prior to applying for a position.

All members of MSC Hospitality will uphold and abide by all Texas A&M University Rules and Regulations, including the Aggie Code of Honor.

All members of MSC Hospitality will support and uphold the mission and goals of MSC Hospitality and the Memorial Student Center.
