MS. NANK’S ADVANCE BIOLOGY AND MARINE COURSE GUIDE AND CONDUCT RULES
Keep this syllabus in your folder for reference.
Materials needed for class:
Please have the following materials for use in class:
§ 3 ring binder with separators that have tabs (these do have to be store bought, you just need to separate your work and label sections)
§Note cards 5 by 8 size (to be used through out the semester for test and things)
§Blue or Black ink pens (no gel pens)
§Lined paper
§#2 pencils
FINAL GRADE: The time to worry about your grade is at the BEGINNING of the semester and NOT a month or day before final grades are due.
· This means keep up.
· Ask for help early
· In the month of May, when you ask “what can I do to raise my grade” you will be referred back to this page of the syllabus.
*ATTENDANCE: STUDENTS WHO MISS 18 CLASSES WILL RECEIVE NO CREDIT FOR THIS CLASS.
Because of the intensity of this course, students will not be able to pass if they have over 18 absences. Students who are absent more than 18 days over the course of the semester will receive a withdraw F (W/F) for the class. THIS IS SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICY. (Please review the student handbook on this policy.)
*TARDYS: Students who are tardy to class (arriving in class AFTER the bell has rung) will be held accountable according to the Student Discipline guidelines.
· On the 4th tardy a parent conference will be called plus a 30 minute detention
· On the 5th tardy a 60 minute detention is assigned
· On the 6th and 7th tardy you go to the A.P. office
· On the 8th tardy the student will receive a withdraw F (W/F) for the class.
THIS IS SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICY. (Please review the student handbook on this policy.)
*EXPECT HOMEWORK EVERY NIGHT. This work is to be done at home, not in the classroom. No student can expect to pass this Biology class unless homework is complete and on time, consistently.
LATE HOMWORK IS NOT ACCEPTED. Other assignments such as lab reports, projects, notebooks/portfolios can receive a maximum of half credit (at teachers discretion) if turned in late. Make up work due to an excused absence will be accepted according to school and department policy.
IT IS THE STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY TO ASK FOR WORK AFTER AN ABSENCE.
*After 3 missed assignments students will be assigned a Saturday school where they are to complete missing assignments and they are to be turned in the following Monday. Any assignment after this Monday will not be accepted.
TESTING: No books or notebooks are allowed when taking test and there will be no retaking of test for better grade. On some test only a 5 by 8 note card that has been approved by me prior to the test can be used on the test and must be turned in with your test or no credit will be give for the test. If a student is absent the day of the test, the test must be made up upon the first day the student returns to school.
*CHEATING: If a student is caught cheating, they will receive an automatic zero (0) for their grade and will be disciplined according to school rules. If a student talks during the test period while test material is still out in the class, the student taking will receive a zero (0) for their grade. There are NO EXCEPTIONS to these rules.
*TEST REVIEW: If you have any questions that we don’t cover in class, I’m in my room before school on a daily basis so you are more than welcome to come ask questions at this time.
