Senior News

  • Senior Picture: The group senior class picture will be taken on Thursday, April 27 right after senior breakfast. You must bring your cap and gown!! Individual pictures will be taken that day for students who make an appointment through their Government class.
  • Graduation Orders: The Jostens representative will be at ACHS on Tuesday, April 25 during all three lunches to give out graduation items that were ordered in time for pick-up.
  • Senior Awards: The Senior Awards Ceremony will be held in the ACHS auditorium on Wednesday, May 10. A dessert reception will begin at 5:45pm with the ceremony starting at 6:30pm. Students who will be recognized will receive an invitation in the mail.
  • Graduation Practice/Graduation: Practice for graduation will be held on the morning of May 19 (time to be determined) at the Vines Center at Liberty University. You do not need your cap and gown for the rehearsal. If you have requested a parking pass for family members who need special assistance, you will receive it at the practice. Please be mindful that ALL outstanding fees (library, book, transcripts, etc.) must be paid before graduation practice. If you think you owe something, check on it now. For graduation on Saturday, May20, please plan to be at the Vines Center at 8:30am appropriately dressed and ready to go! Don’t forget to bring your cap and gown! You cannot participate without it. The ceremony begins at 10am.

New Scholarships Have Just Arrived!

The following scholarship applications are now available. They can be found in the filing rack outside of the career center in the School Counseling office. The deadlines are clearly marked on the applications, so there should be no confusion. Most of these have very quick turn-arounds. Don’t forget to pick up applications for the scholarships listed in previous newsletters. You may still have time to apply for some of them.

1) Insurance Professional of Central Virginia sponsors two scholarships: the Audrey S.Hudnall Memorial Scholarship and the Frank Donald Scrivener Memorial Scholarship. Students may fill out one application for both scholarships. These are for students pursuing further education in any field. Deadline to your counselor is April 21.

2)The Gamma Iota Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and the Ethel C.Mitchell Memorial Scholarships are available for young women with high academic achievements and who are active in the community. The deadline for returning the applications to your counselor is April 26.

3)The Lynchburg Tennis Patrons Association sponsors the Dick Sargeson TennisScholarshipfor tennis athletes. Applicants must write an essay on how tennis has impacted their life. The essay must convey a thoughtful message through proper grammar, correct spelling, and careful editing. A letter of recommendation for a high school tennis coach or teaching professional, as well as a list of tennis accomplishments is required. The deadline to return the completed application to guidance is April 27.

4)Amherst County Rotary Club Community College or Trade/Technical School Scholarship is available in the scholarship corner. Candidates should be in the top 50% of the class and have applied and been accepted to an institution to continue their education. The deadline is April 28.

5)Amherst County Rotary Club Four-Year College Scholarship is also available. This is a renewable scholarship for four years totaling $6,000 and is for students pursuing any field at a four-year college or university. The applications must be returned to guidance by April 28.

6)The Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Scholarship is available for African American females and is based on academic achievement, high school activities, and community involvement. Well-written responses to the essay questions and one letter of recommendation are important. The application deadline is May 4.

7)Students planning to attend Virginia State University in Petersburg should apply for the $500 scholarship offered by the Central Virginia Alumni Chapter of Virginia State University. Two letters of recommendation and an essay indicating your need and why you chose Virginia State are required. The deadline to you counselor is May 8.
