August 2017

Dear Fifth Grade Student,

Hello! My name is Mrs. Porter, and I am very excited to have you in my class. This is my21st year teaching school. I LOVE teaching fifth grade. I am so excited about the upcoming school year and all the wonderful activities that I have planned. Your fifth grade experience will be exciting and challenging, as we get to know one another and our new surroundings. You will be provided with opportunities to share your talents, interests, and knowledge! After a restful summer, it is now time to focus on academics, teamwork, and responsibility.

Mrs. Fitzpatrick and I will cooperatively work with you. I will be teaching you reading/language arts, math, and social studies. Mrs. Fitzpatrick will be teaching you science.

I am excited to embark on this amazing journey with you and have been preparing my classroom for a rewarding year! Your adventures in learning will include an exploration of the Western Hemisphere in social studies and becoming skilled at applying new math concepts. You’ll learn to write in Writer’s Workshop the way real writers do! Our journey wouldn’t be complete without engaging in suspenseful, gripping, and inspiring literature! I am eagerly counting down the days until my time with YOU begins.

The supplies you will need for the upcoming school year are part of this welcome letter. Please have your supplies for the first day of school. I know it will be hard to carry all your supplies with you on the first day of school. You can drop off your supplies early on, August 28th between the hours of 8:30 –and 10:30 in the multi-purpose room. Additional supplies may be requested as the first week of school gets underway.

Please eat a good breakfast and bring a healthy snack in case you get hungry during the day. School begins on Tuesday, September 5, 2017. I can’t wait to welcome you on the first day of school. I know we are going to have a great class and a wonderful year together. Enjoy the rest of your summer and I will see you in room D237 on September 5, 2017!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Porter

“All About Me”

To introduce yourself, put at least three things and not more than five things, in a paper bag that represent you. For example, if you are an artist you might want to put a paintbrush in your bag. Some other ideas might be a picture of your favorite food, something to do with a sport or hobby you enjoy, pictures of your family and your pets, your favorite CD, or your favorite book. Think of things that will help us get to know YOU!

We can’t wait for you to share and explain the significance of the items in your, “All About Me,” bag.

Feel free to decorate the outside of your bag!
