Mrs. Borganelli’s Lady Bug News

Week of October 16-20, 2017

Dear Parents,

We have had a wonderful week in Kindergarten!! We enjoyed reading and learning about autumn! Elsa was our “STAR STUDENT of the week”! Dan the dachshund traveled home with Alexa last weekend! Our phonics lesson was about the “at” family. In math we are working on graphing using a bar graph, recognizing and forming numbers 1-20, and our letter of the week has been “Ii”.

Word of the Week: The HLA word of the week was ACCEPTANCE! Please be sure and ask your child what this word means.

Conferences: It was great to meet with so many of you this week! I have several parents that are scheduled for the Friday 10-27-17 Overflow Conference Day. Please email me if you need to change your conference time or to schedule a time to meet.

Pumpkin Day: Pumpkin Day is scheduled for Tuesday October 31, 2017. Each child should bring a small pumpkin to school. A good rule for the size of the pumpkin would be if it’s too big and too heavy for your child to carry then it is probably too big. Please write your child’s name on the bottom of the pumpkin. Please do not cut or carve any part of their pumpkin. We are looking forward to a fun educational day with pumpkin activities that include such subjects as math, science, music, physical education and language arts. Parent volunteers are needed for the outside pumpkin day activities and our Kindergarten Fall Party!! Pumpkin Day volunteers please sign up on” Sign Up Genesis” or see Mrs. Little.

Fall Party: After pumpkin day activities and lunch are concluded we will be having our fall party. Please send in a healthy snack for your child to share with the entire class. Please label your fall party snack “Kdg .Fall Party and try to avoid for our class sending any gluten or dairy products. Inside the HLA Handbook is a list of healthy snack options that would be great for your child to share for our fall party!! If you are planning on volunteering for pumpkin day activities please feel free to stay for lunch and the fall party as well! No costumes are allowed on pumpkin day or for the class fall party.

Spelling Test Next Week: Below you will find our spelling words for our spelling test next week. Parents will begin to see their kindergartener’s spelling words in their pencil pouches weekly. All students will participate in the spelling test. All students will be introduced to the challenge words. Students generally tell me if they would like to try the bonus words. The bonus words are a way that students can challenge themselves but definitely are not required to do so.
