Mrs. Betancourtbegan the meeting at 4:35 pm

Direction 1-

Tardy Sweeps- Mrs. Pedroza gave an update on tardy sweeps. The tardy sweeps are working. At the beginning, we were averaging about 15 student tardies per sweep. The numbers have gone down to about 1-2 students per sweeps. In the next couple of weeks, the tardy sweeps periods will no longer be announced and will be provided in the Monday Memo. It is imperative that such information is kept confidential to keep the tardy sweep efforts from being undermined.

Attendance

Teachers were asked to continue to monitor attendance during their PLCs. If students are absent frequently, email Susie and Mr. Hood. Administration is trying to strengthen the systems to track students and increase attendance. Mr. Oliva gave Mrs. Betancourt the idea of giving students free dress Thursday and Friday if they are present Monday-Wednesday. The committee thought it was a good idea but it would be hard to keep track of and would also slow down the momentum of streamlining dress code.

Direction 2-

AVID-The summer institute will be in Dallas from June 21-23rd. The summer avid cohort will have a representative from each department, the new SCIE coach, and Ms. Pedroza. The cohort will bring everything they learn and provide the campus with professional development. The cost of attendance is $1700 per person. Next year, the AVID coordinators from the feeder pattern will meet to establish vertical alignment. Mrs. Porras will also come on board as one of the Avid coordinators for next year.

Pre-IB- Mrs. Betancourt discussed the possibility of establish our first Pre-IB cohort to feed into EDHS. It will be something novel for a middle school campus.

HOUSE Bill 5 Night- Mrs. Reyes thanked everyone who came out to help. They are only about 45 students pending the parent signature for the student endorsement. About 77 students are missing the 8th grade activities compact. The 8th grade teachers received a list so they can remind students that the deadline to submit the compact is Monday, March 6, 2017.

Intersession- It will cost $19000. The intersession lists are due on Friday, March 3, 2017. The coaches need the lists so they can send out permission slips. The week before intersession there will not be any meetings so that teachers have time to plan the intersession lessons and activities. All instruction will be based on data outcomes and objectives. Each grade level will have a different rotation system based on the unique needs of the grade levels. 6th and 7th grades student will be here from Monday- Thursday from 8-12. 8th graders will be here Monday-Friday 8-12pm.

Staff Development

Pre-AP summer institutes at UTEP this summers. Teachers who want to teach Pre-AP classes need to have the training or the update. Mrs. Betancourt has the dates for those interested. The next after schoolprofessional development session will focus on classroom management, and maintaining high expectations for second semester. Everyone is invited to attend.

Staffing 2016-2017

The enrollment numbers for next year’s 6th grade class range from 345-442. There seems to be a discrepancy between the geographically assigned student numbers and the totalstudent numbers affected by transfer requests and grandfathered students. With this is mind, the campus will be given 8 teachers for next year. Because of this, two teachers will have to float and teachers will have classroom reassignments. The floater teachers will not have to move across the campus. They will be assigned a hall and float within the hall. It will not be an issue if we get extra portables. But…

The extra portables might not come until the 2018-2019 school year when the projected student number reaches 1300. Mrs. Macias will come to meet with the staff in April.

Directions 4

Reading and Social Studies Night will be April 12. 2017.

Direction 5

Benchmark comparison- The team reviewed the benchmark results and compared scores with other campuses in the district.

Meeting adjourned at 6:15 pm.
