Discipline
Although there are no rules listed in our class, respect is the key. I will always try to treat you with respect and I expect the same back at all times.
Evacuations
In the event of a fire, we will line up and head towards the softball field. In the event of a tornado, we will line up and head towards the gym.
**Being on Time for Class, Having Permission to Miss Class, and Cutting
I want you in class everyday, but as the school rule states, you must be on time for class or I have to send you to STEP. Being on time for our class means that your leg or arm, at the least, is inside the main door to theclassroom by the time the late bell stops ringing. This way, I can see from anywhere in the class if you are ontime. I understand that there will be times that you won’t be in class because you need to be somewhere else school-related. However, as the school rule states, please communicate with me before you miss class. I cannot send anyone to another teacher or contact another teacher during class for any reason, including to get permission for a student to be there. If you need to miss our class in order to stay with another teacher, please come to our class at the very beginning with a passfrom that teacher that says it is “ok” for you to be there. I will countersign the pass. I cannot go on “word of mouth. You can also have the teacher email me or call me at the beginning of class instead of bringing me a pass. Do not come to me during or after class with a pass or you may be considered cutting. Do not stay in another teacher’s class without my permission. Remember, I’m responsible not only forhelping you to learn but also for where you are during our class. Cutting class occurs when you are in school for at least partof the day but you do not come to our class and do not have permission (permission from me, in STEP or RISE, signed in late or signed out early, field trip, etc.) to miss it. If you cut our class, you will receive a referral. You will also lose part of your weekly “do-now” and “classwork” grades. Attendance is critical!
**Homework
When you do any work in here it must have your name and the name of the work; i.e.: chap. 26, sect 4. If it is late due to a good reason, sickness, etc., please put the word "absent” on top to let me know to give you full credit. In addition, all answers, unless otherwise noted, must be in complete sentences and in your own words. If you don’t, or if you leave any questions blank, get a lot wrong, or put in no effort, I'll ask you to complete the work or to do the work over. You have two school days to complete your homework. Anytime after that it is 50% off. A 50%, however, is always better than a “0” and effort always matters to me, remember that. Work is always due at the very beginning of class. After I collect the work from the bin, usually two to three minutes into class, any work turned in after that that is due that day will be considered late. I do this so those who do their work in class the day it is due don’t earn the same grade as those who did it on time before class. In addition, all work for each chapter must be turned in before or on the day of the chapter test. You cannot make up work for a chapter after you take the test on it. I do this to prepare you for real life.
Current Events
You do not have to do current events in this class.
Tests
Tests will always be announced ahead of time. If you are absent for any reason, you are expected to make it up. I will not go to you for it and it will become a permanent “0” if you don’t see me within a week of the test date.
What You Need
You should have something to write on and something to write with everyday. You also should have something to put your work in after I return it to you. Always keep the work you do so if I make a mistake with your grade you have the proof of how well you did.
Substitute Teachers
When I am absent, your behavior and work count as two test grades, or a “200.” I expect good behavior in our room. In order to receive a “200,” you must finish at least two homeworks, turn the work in before you leave class, have proper behavior, and not use electrical devices. If you have less than two homeworks to do to finish a chapter, just do what you have left, if any. Please make sure that you label every paper with your name and the correct chapter(s) and section(s). If you don’t complete any or enough of your work (if you have any) or fail to turn anything in, but your behavior is good, you will earn a “100.” If your name is taken down for any negative reason, including for using electronic devices, you will earn a “0” no matter how much work you did. This is an easy opportunity for you to raise your grade, but it is also an easy way to drop it.
**Grading
Your grades are updated everyday and posted in class everyday for you to see. The grading categories and how much each category counts as:
Tests50% of your grade
Homework25% of your grade
Do-Nows/Classwork25% of your grade
Every week, you start off with a “100” for your do-now (class opener). If you do the do-now every day of the week that we meet, you will maintain your “100.” If you take too long to start it, do a very poor job on it, fail to write or type it somewhere, don’t do it at all, are talking too much or disrupting the class, or are late unexcused to class, your do-now grade for the week will drop to a “50” the first time it happens during a week. If there is a second time during the same week, your “50” will become a “0.” The same goes for your classwork grade each week. If you are using any electronics when you aren’t supposed to, talking too much or disrupting the class, have your head down, sleeping, or simply refuse to do work, your classwork grade will drop to a “50” the first time it happens during a week. If there is a second time during the same week, your “50” will become a “0.”
