AP European History is an introductory college level course that will cover Western Civilization from the High Middle Ages to the modern era (1450 c.e. to 2008.) Yes, you will learn about history, but more importantly you will learn the skills that will make you strong students. The reading and writing skills you learn in this class will help you be successful in high school, college and the rest of your life. Not to mention on the AP Euro test!
You are special. You are the ones who are willing to take the challenge. You will work hard, but that hard work will pay off. In the beginning of the year things may seem difficult because you will be asked to do more work than you ever have in a class. That means you have to be patient. You will grow stronger. I will help you and you will help each other.
You will learn to…
be on-time with your work
work with a schedule
be a better reader
be a better writer
be a critical thinker
Grading
Your grades will be based on short writing assignments, quizzes and AP-style test, essays, and projects designed to strengthen your content knowledge.
Retake/Make Up Policy
I do not generally allow for retakes. I will allow tests corrections. If you are unable to complete an essay you will have to check in with me prior to the due date, otherwise it will due the next class period when you return.
Writing
You will do a lot of writing and you will read what you write to partners, to groups and to the whole class. It’s intimidating, but it’s a very effective way to become a good writer.
The Test
The AP test will consists of 4 sections—multiple choice w stimulus, short response w stimulus, long essay and DBQ (Document Based Question)—all of which rely on your ability to read and write at a college level. This class will teach you how to do that well.
Binder
You will have a 3-ring binder where you will keep EVERYTHING—some people may choose to have two binders, one for 1st semester and one for 2nd semester.
