Mr. Lamb’s Physical Education Syllabus 2016-2017

COURSE 2

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: This physical education program emphasizes lifelong fitness, building social skills and the development of motor skills through daily participation in multiple sport activities. This curriculum will provide students with the opportunity to practice and develop the skills necessary to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Course standards:

1.  Demonstrate knowledge and competency in motor skills, movement patterns and strategies needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

2.  Achieve a level of physical fitness for health and performance while demonstration knowledge of fitness concepts, principles and strategies.

3.  Demonstrate knowledge of psychological and sociological concepts, priciples and strategies an they apply to learning and performance of physical activity.

Assessment of standards will be as follows. Skills test, observation, and written assessments.

Listed below are the units that will be taught:

1st Semester (1) Soccer (2) ) Volleyball 3) Pickle ball (4) Hockey

2nd Semester (5) Football (6) Basketball (7) Volley Tennis (8) Softball

Listed below are some fitness (cardio) activities that will be taught:

1.  Timed Miles 2. Bleachers 3. Teacher Jogs 4. Gender Jogs 5. Jog/Walks 6. Sprints

REQUIREMENTS FOR EACH STUDENT: (Purchase at Bookstore and bring receipt to teacher)

Combination Lock $5.

P.E. T-shirt $5 (Non Bolsa athletic wear is allowed with teacher approval)

P.E. Shorts $10

Athletic Shoes and Socks

DAILY ROUTINE:

1)  Go to locker room and dress for class, lock up all personal items in big lockers and head back out to your teacher’s roll call numbers. (10 mins)

2)  Sit on assigned number for roll call, warm-up and stretch

3)  Listen for daily lesson, participate in activity

4)  Take 2nd roll call at numbers or wait for teacher’s instruction for dismissal

5)  Head back to lockers to change and wait at handball wall for bell to ring (10 mins)

STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO DRESS AND PARTICIPATE EVERYDAY!

1st Nonsuit/Tardy - Warning

2nd Nonsuit/Tardy - Teacher Phone Call Home, After School Detention

3rd Nonsuit/Tardy- Saturday School Assigned thru referral

4th/5th Nonsuit/Tardy - Referral to Administrator, Saturday School

CITIZENSHIP AND WORK HABITS (O, S, N, U)

Citizenship and work habit marks are earned by students being present to class on time, being dressed in full uniform and showing effort in class on a daily basis. Students are expected to be respectful to others, to school equipment and to school property. Misbehavior or misconduct will result in a lowered citizenship mark as well as a FINE for any damaged equipment and/or lockers.

GRADING SCALE: Students are graded on a point scale and the percentage resulting is their grade.

A = 90-100 B = 80-89 C = 70-79 D = 60-69 F = 59 and below

“ROUTINE” (40%)

4 Pts/Day - DRESS AND PARTICIPATION (4 Pts X 5 Days = 20 Pts/Week )

20 Pts/Wk X 4-5 Wks = 80-100 Points/month

(Points differ during each unit depending on non-school days)

“FITNESS” (40%)

2 Days/ Week - FITNESS/AEROBIC ACTIVITIES (2 Days X 10 Points = 20 Pts/Wk)

20 Pts/Wk X 4-5 wks = 80-100 Pts/UNIT

The goal is to show improvement in your times and repatitions over the course of the semester.

“TESTS/QUIZZES” (20%)

Test (Written/Action), FITNESS TESTING -Timed Mile(s), Sit n Reach, Trunk Lift, Push-ups, Sit-ups or any activity that is timed or assessed by teacher (Points vary by each assignment). Students will be assessed on basic skill development during each unit, as wel as advanced skill development at the conclusion of the semester.

POINT DEDUCTIONS: Non-participation, ABSENCE/ MEDICAL INJURY points can be MADE UP if EXCUSED by the office and/or doctor’s note is received.

Make-up points can be earned through: written assignments, extra physical activity during the period or time scheduled with the teacher. (Agreement made between student and teacher.)

2.  SICK NOTE FROM DOCTOR

(Sickness/Injury lasting for more than 3 days)

POINTS WILL BE LOST FOR NON-PARTICIAPTION, BUT CAN BE MADE UP DURING EXTRA CREDIT ACTIVITIES DURING CLASS OR ALTERNATIVE ASSIGNMENTS GIVEN BY YOUR TEACHER
