The BIG & CURIOUS Maze
"The BIG & CURIOUS Paper Maze"
An awesome art "event" first demonstrated, back in 1970, by my college Architectural Professor from Finland.Through Class TEAMWORK we will build a fascinating human-scale paper maze. This is a room-sized network of tunnels made from newspaper, scotch tape, and string. The classes (or school) should collect about a two-foot high stack of newspapers, and provide a dozen rolls of scotch tape in dispensers, and a few scissors. The more dispensers there are the quicker the tunnels are constructed.I will also bring newspapers and tape.
Each TEAM (or Class) works on a separate tunnel section. An entire Room is required. It may be the ArtRoom. I come in and do a partial set-up for approximately 1-hour beforehand. The maze can be photographed or videotaped as it is being built. The rest of the school can be invited to enjoy the completed tunnels which are especially curious in the dark! Paper walls "whoosh" and flutter as you pass through. It is fun to investigate with flashlights at night.
Different classes construct different parts of the maze, or continue the previous class' work in shifts. Taking the maze apart at the end of the day (or the next morning ) takes less time, but is equally fun!
