Thank you for your email of 24 December in which you ask for information on the recruitment process for the Convenor of the IPS Expert Panel post. Your request has been handled as a request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

ANNEX

The Home Office has appointed a “Convenor of the IPS Expert Panel”.

1. How much money was spent on recruitment consultants and advertising to find applicants for this post?

The Whitehall & Industry Group fee was £7,000 in total. £2,000 to trawl and search for applications and £5,000 once a candidate was successfully appointed.

2. On how many dates, advertisements for the post were published, and in which newspapers.

The advert was not published in a newspaper. It was trawled to the Whitehall & Industry Group (WIG)membership (180 Members: comprising of FTSE and professional services companies, government departments, agencies and local authorities).

WIG's database of individuals interested in non-executive appointments is approximately 1500 people. The advert was placed on the WIG website and on the Public Appointment Units website.

It was advertised on the 24 August 2009 with a closing date of the 18 September 2009.

3. Apart from newspapers, what other advertising channels were used.

The advert was not published in a newspaper. As stated above, it was to WIG membership, our database of Non Executive Director contacts, WIG website and the Public Appointments Unit website.

4. How many people completed applications for the post?

16 applications were completed for the post.

5. How many applicants for the post were interviewed?

4 Applicants were interviewed for the post.
